YOU GUYS. YOU GUYS. I CAN NOT EVEN.

So, the stupid @*#&^@# blackberry curve I'd had for about 2 months (which was my second replacement, btw) broke again on Saturday. And in spectacular fashion, no less. Not only did the ball fall out again, but when I put it back in, it would only scroll in one horizontal direction. As in, I could scroll up, down, and left, but if I wanted to scroll to the right, I had to take the ball out and flip it around. I made do for a day or so, seeing as I had fifteen days left until my upgrade date, and I could wrap my digits around the beautiful Droid Incredible, which I've been drooling over since the damn thing came out.

The upgrade price I could get through Verizon was $150, but I figured it'd be less when I hit the two-year mark. I was visiting the folks yesterday, and my mom found two brochures in the Sunday papers (one from Target, one from Best Buy) that had the Incredible listed for $49.99 and FREE with a two-year activation, respectively. What.

So, my entire family encouraged me to call my good friends at Verizon, explain the situation, and see if something couldn't be done for me. Verizon, as I've come to expect, were absolute aces. The very nice woman I spoke to on the phone (after conferring with her supervisor) said that she could change my upgrade date to today, and that I would be free to go wherever I wanted to get my upgrade.

Half an hour in Best Buy later, I now have MY PRECIOUS (along with a case and a screen protector). I just. I can't...how did I survive so long with that terrible excuse for a smartphone? No, really. Someone explain this to me, because I don't even fucking know. And the incredible thing about the Incredible (you see what I did there) is that it's eerily like an iPhone. Like, kind of spookily similar. I got to play with it a little before the battery needed to be recharged all night, so I'll finish in the morning. BUT MY GOD. PHONEGASM.

And now....APPS! I have twitter and facebook and will be getting Angry Birds tomorrow. I also downloaded the Kindle App and nearly died - all of the books I've bought are there. I will never be short of something to read again. I also plan to hit this list hard for suggestions. Droid users, what's your favorite? I want to know!!

And now for pizza, which should be interesting given the giant smile wrapped around my head. I AM SO HAPPY. THERE ARE NOT WORDS.

Dear Mailroom:
After checking the tracking number, I couldn't help but notice that my BRAND NEW OMG BLACKBERRY CURVE BLING BLING is in your possession. Please deliver it rapidly, or else face a lunatic tearing through your fedex boxes until she finds her new precious.

you have been warned!!

Love,
Me.

OMG that was fast. I finally broke down and ordered the damn thing yesterday, around 5pm. And IT'S HERE ALREADY. IF IT ARRIVES TODAY I NOW KNOW WHY I CAME IN TO WORK.

And so it came to pass yesterday that [livejournal.com profile] j_bkl activated the shiny shinyness of his iPhone. He loves it, and was tinkering with it during our evening, which sadly did not include a viewing of State of Play, as originally contemplated. (Stupid theater sold out too fast!) Anyway, all this talk of phones that can do more than mine have been making me think more. And when [livejournal.com profile] infinitehippo was iming me from the Yankee home opener on his Blackberry this past Thursday, I decided to stop sulking about what I couldn't have, and start thinking seriously about what I wanted from a new phone, which to be honest, I really am starting to need. I want something with a keyboard, something that can do the web on the fly, things like that. I'm very happy with Verizon and I'm happy to stay with them.

After tons of research, I've narrowed it down to the Blackberry Curve and the Motorola Q 9M. One of my coworkers and several friends have blackberries of their own, non-work volition and love them, so it caused me to re-consider one, despite what [livejournal.com profile] tehdawgfather said. [livejournal.com profile] airspaniel and [livejournal.com profile] redstapler have the Q, and it's also pretty nice. I've been reading a lot of reviews of it being prone to freezing, though, which give me pause. But I do genuinely like both phones, so after comprehensive research, I'm going to do two things: 1. Go to the Verizon store at lunch today, and 2. put up an LJ poll! (because who doesn't love a good LJ poll, really?)

[Poll #1387994]

So, before a bunch of you drag out the "GET THE IPHONE" soap boxes, I've seen and played with many iphones. So many people I know have them now, in addition to J: [livejournal.com profile] zyll,[livejournal.com profile] trebleahead ,[livejournal.com profile] tacologic,[livejournal.com profile] tehdawgfather, [livejournal.com profile] redesigner, [livejournal.com profile] reppep, and many others on here, I am sure. They are fun and shiny and have some fun random apps (like a tricorder or a light saber). However, I just do not know if the iPhone is the right phone for me, at least right now.
1) It's expensive. Even the previously owned ones. (I can get the above-mentioned phones from Verizon for nothing or close to it.)
2) They're stolen a lot. This is a concern. So is the fact that they're fragile.
3) and possibly most importantly, I can't get one on Verizon. I like Verizon. I do not like AT&T.

New Orleans girl also pointed out quite wisely a few weeks ago that I do not need "that much phone." "It's like a mini-computer," she said. She pointed out that I have a laptop and am on a computer all day, so why in blazing hell did I need to pay all that money for? I couldn't come up with a reason, except for all the shiny apps. I have a less-than-a-year-old 120 GB ipod that is barely half full. I don't need another ipod. So, no iphone or iphone clone just yet. We'll see how I feel when AT&T's exclusivity contract runs out in 2011, if they don't extend.

Happy April Fool's Day, Everyone!!

As I am still extremely proud of last year's prank and the reaction it got, I am not plotting or planning anything for April Fool's this year. Granted, I wanted to send a memo to the Editorial group stating that due to limited space in the contract room, we are now only allowing them to sign Authors or Artists with last names beginning with certain letters, but I am honestly worried that too many people would have fallen for that one. Still, my boss got a good snicker out of it, which is the point of this entire day anyway. Smiles and snickers all around.

Bacon, however, is always worth paying attention to, no matter the day.

Otherwise, things are good. [livejournal.com profile] j_bkl and I yet again took advantage of our Optimum Rewards and saw I Love You, Man for free last night. It was so funny, I would have gladly paid for it, though.

The only thorn in my side right now is Verizon Wirelss. My phone is starting to show its age a tiny bit, and I would like to upgrade to something with a Qwerty keyboard and maybe a nicer screen, perhaps a few improved features. You'd think that would be easy, but no. Verizon is currently still under the impression it's 2003, and the only way to get a phone with a keyboard is to pay for a Blackberry, which [livejournal.com profile] tehdawgfather did a pretty good job of convincing me that I don't need. They also have a couple of "smartphones" that require more expensive plans to be worth it, and these are pretty bulky and expensive on their own. Naturally, I found a phone that I love that is not offered by Verizon: the LG Lotus. I saw a purple one in Best Buy, and it's just fantastic. It's about the size and width of a compact, full keyboard, great screen, really pretty design (especially the purple). Naturally, Verizon does not offer it nor can it tell me when or if it'll be offering anything new - even though they are rumored to be offering some nice new ones soon, including the LG Lotus clone the Samsung Strut. Until then, I have to wait it out, and I'm pretty annoyed. I'm not sure if I'm annoyed enough to get an iPhone, though. They're expensive, often stolen, and it's a whole lot of computer for one phone. *sigh*
