I'm doing student conferences today, and one student, after seeing Eowyn plastered all over the walls, excitedly told me, "My cousin just had a baby and named her Eowyn!"

I wasn't sure how to react to that. I named my cat Eowyn. I would never name a child Eowyn. Cats don't give each other shit about what their parents named them. I got shit from kids about being named Lauryn, fer chrissakes! (When I was a kid, it was still a fairly uncommon name. And then, five years later, apparently everyone decided they liked the name. My sister had six friends named Lauren when she was in elementary school.)

No, if I ever have a kid, I'll give it a nice, sensible name. Like Jubilation Lee. . .
