Big News.

My sister eloped.

This is not a drill.

She's in San Diego getting married about right now.

She and Puck decided to do it this way because of skyrocketing wedding costs. And I can't say I blame them. The Wedding Industrial Complex(tm) has made it nigh impossible to have a wedding that doesn't cost ridiculous amounts of money. Plus, this is more romantic and private and all that. Both my parents and I are extremely happy for them, and hope they're having a wonderful time.

Best of luck to the happy couple. I'll just be over here with my head between my knees, trying to process all of this.

Rj and I had a nice, $60 City Hall wedding. Our big extravagance that day was that we went out to eat for lunch and dinner.

Sharon, if it makes you feel better, I didn't tell my family I was married until nearly a year later, and Rj told his mom when he was having surgery half a year later.

I remember that! :) I'm glad that they're happy and having fun, and we'll celebrate when they get back. The wedding should really be about the couple getting married. And weddings have turned into this...production, that borders on the ludicrous.

Seconded, and I had a lovely wedding paid for by my parents. For the hassle, headaches and money/time suck, eloping really is the saner option. Honestly, I would've been just as happy eloping. I wanted to marry Jeremy, and didn't much care how it was done. I feel that our wedding was mostly for our families - the rest of our lives is what mattered to me. :)
