Hard-Knock Life

So, awhile back, a friend offered free tickets to All Points West, a big Coachella/Glastonbury/Bonnaroo type-doo that they're having in Jersey City. I was psyched to go, but then the tickets fell through, so I didn't pay it any mind. New Orleans Girl had also been talking about going, but hemmed and hawed when it came down to buying tickets (they're $90 per day, the idea was to go Friday, for Vampire Weekend, the Heartless Bastards, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Beastie Boys, and others). Then the Beasties dropped out, due to MCA's illness. NOG was swearing up and down that the replacement would be an extra set by Coldplay, who are headlining on Sunday (they're not my favorite, but I have no desire to see them live). But we waited to see what was what.

And now, it was announced this morning that Brooklyn's own Jay-Z is headlining. That's right. Hova.

Now, it may come as a shock to some of you, but I looooove Jay-Z. So this is what one might refer to as a game-changer.

NOG is pushing hard for me to go. I'm in the "well it sounds awesome" camp right now. Things holding me back: ticket price, the fact that it's an outdoor festival and all the bullshit baggage that entails, and that it's going to be a bitch of a commute. But, as NOG wisely pointed out, each of the other bands we want to see would be about $30/each for a ticket, and that one could expect to pay $90 JUST to see Jay-Z. So I'm not sure what to do.

So, Poll time!!

I demand that you go and allow me to live vicariously through you, since I am crippled and cannot go see the Yeah Yeah Yeahs in Albany on Aug. 1, let ALONE all those others.

As I said on FB, if a seat in the shade is guaranteed, DOOO EEEEET.

Otherwise, it's an expensive Siren Festival clone.

And you know I've avoided that hot mess for years.

From what I've seen, no such guarantee. Are there such places at Falcon Ridge?

And that's kind of my feeling about it. But I'm wondering if the bands are going to be worth it anyway.

(And the last time I went with Siren, it was the time that you and I hung out and took an Ocean Break, while the fools people we were with who did NOT bring bathing suits were unable to join us.)

Are there such places at Falcon Ridge?

Yes. It's on a farm, so there's lots of trees and things.

But also, I spend a lot of time at my camp where there's a lovely covered area with lots of chairs and smiles and booze.

And yeah, that was the last time I went to Siren as well.

I totally agree with the shade comment. As someone who went to the first Warped Tour, sat in the sun all day, and got a triangle David Bowie like sunburn coming from the corners of my eyes, I would recommend SHADE!!
