Shiny things.

Several things amused me today. Here are a few for you all to enjoy:
One of the funniest LOLcats I've seen in awhile.
and, New York Magazine examines the Literary and Cinematic underpinnings of Gossip Girl, my dearly beloved crack show.
I'm constantly surprised and impressed by the level of writing, acting, and shot composition on the show. Maybe my brain is fried by Wednesday, but I am always amazed at the little touches that make this show a little bit better than its peers.
The scene that alludes to Blair's bulimia impressed me. No silly finger down the throat shots - but the hallucinations and the shaky camera? Grand. The flashbacks to last Thanksgiving, and her confrontation with her mother in the end. I also love how she and Serena will bitch at and hate each other one minute, then call on each other the next.
Also? I would like a flashback episode dealing with Lily, Rufus, and Rufus's wife. I love the fact that Lily was a groupie back in her day.
Gossip Girl is still new, so I want to wait a little longer before I totally say this, but for me, this is becoming brain candy on the same level as Ugly Betty you look at the premise and you think it's going to be fluffy and silly and forgettable. Instead, it relishes its fluffy and silly elements while remaining completely self-aware, and isn't afraid to be self-mocking.
That's all I really have right now. I'm looking forward to dinner with
whtegrlwthehair in a couple of hours. And the fact that tomorrow is not only Friday, but the start of my vacation.
Edited to Add This.
I live for moments like that.
