1. Stop talking about politics for a moment or two.
2. Post areasonably-sized picture in your LJ, NOT under a cut tag, of somethingpleasant, such as an adorable kitten, or a fluffy white cloud, or abottle of booze. Something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS.
3. Include these instructions, and share the love.

Instead of a picture, I offer a link:

Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) - by Beyonce

I defy anyone to listen to this and be able to sit still. I would have embedded, but they blocked that feature.

When you see this, post another Supernatural quote in your LJ. Let's see how long this can go on.

I haven't posted much this week, but there has been some stuff going on. I'm off to shop now, but hopefully I'll be able to post more later. Instead, have a meme to entertain you all. :D

You know how sometimes people on your friend's list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when are they working THERE? Since when are they dating HIM/HER? since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you *should* already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy mine below, erase my answers putting yours in their place then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration! One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out :)

1. First Name: Sharon. Specific people are allowed to call me Shaz, but that is a VERY short list.

2. Age: 28

3. Location: Brooklyn, New York

4. Occupation: I work in the Legal department of a Big International Publisher. Sometimes I like it a lot, sometimes it drives me absolutely insane.

5. Partner?: I am newly involved with J, a guy I met recently at a play and whom I hit it off with almost instantly. We have a ton of things in common, including a sense of humor, and things are really going awesome so far. I'm really happy.

6. Kids: I like them in general, provided they're well-behaved. As for my own, I have to be able to contemplate the idea of having them without first having an anxiety attack.

7. Brothers/Sisters:: As most of you know, I am fortunate to have [livejournal.com profile] quasisonic as my younger sibling. We're 22 months apart, most people think we're twins, and we really do get along really well.

8. Pets:: Allergic to almost everything. May one day get a dog, but not yet.

I had a guinea pig named Peanut Butter when I was 8 that I loved dearly and who lived to a ripe old guinea pig age of 7 years. We also briefly had a cat named Einstein whom we rescued from certain death, but who unfortunately proved the depth of my mother's and my cat allergies. :(

9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:

A) I've been experiencing all of the fun and strangeness and negotiations that one encounters in a fledgling relationship, and trying to finally accept that something good may have come along without the accompanying kick in the head that I'm used to. I hope.

B) My sister is engaged. Granted, she's engaged to a great guy whom I think is great for her and that they'll be happy. But this is MY BABY SISTER and she's GETTING MARRIED. ZOMG. It's a lot to take in, you know.

C) I'm going to Las Vegas with [livejournal.com profile] redesigner in August. We're going for the usual round of Vegas-ness, but with the added bonus of attending the gigantic Star Trek Con. I'm more psyched about this than I thought I would be. I'm not sure if I'm cosplaying as anyone yet, though I've had ideas. Nor am I sure of what I'll be going to see, aside from the Las Vegas Philharmonic's salute to the Music of Star Trek, which hopefully will not conflict with some other things I want to see. Know this - if it costs more than $30 to get into? I ain't interested. :P

10. School: I graduated from the State University of New York at Albany in 2002. I graduated Magna Cum Laude, with a major in English (concentration in writing), and minors in History and Journalism. Going to UA was one of the smarter things I think I ever did. I did well, I made friends, and got a lot of fantastic experience there. All this, plus a relatively low student loan bill. My amazing parents (more on them in a minute) put it to me like this: I could go to one of the many prestigious schools I was accepted to and be $160,000 in debt, or I could go to this really good State school and be $16,000 in debt. They told me that I was smart and hard working enough that where my diploma was from would not matter. And they were right.

11. Parents: My parents are awesome. No, really. Ask anyone. They're beyond cool. They don't try to be, mind you. They never pulled that stupid "Oh, we're BFF" stuff. They just succeeded in being interesting people who knew how to talk to their kids instead of at them. They set clear rules, didn't stand for any crap, and were just indulgent enough (I think). And, somehow, they managed to raise me as a Stealth!Geek. As someone who grew up honestly surprised to discover that other people's parents didn't watch Star Trek or read Science Fiction.
They've always supported me, too. When I told them about how my insisted upon plan to become a business major had been changed so that I would be an English major instead, both of them cheered with relief that I'd come to my senses. They've also always been super supportive of my writing, and of me in general. Again, I am lucky. :)

12. Who are some of your closest friends?:

There are so many. I mean, how do you choose?

There are the ones I can barely go two days without talking to, who have listened to the lion's share of my whining and with whom I engage in the best snarking.

There are the ones I don't see as often as I like, but whom I have endless amounts of fun with when I do.

There are ones that I've known for ages and ages and whom I can't imagine my life without.

I could name names, but I think you all know who you are. :)

And now, praise the Universe, I get to GET OUT OF HERE!! YAY summer Friday!

What we have here is the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing’s users. As in, they sit on the shelf to make you look smart or well-rounded. Bold the ones you've read, underline the ones you read for school, italicize the ones you started but didn't finish.

Because I can't resist a book meme )

The new version of Itunes has a play count column. I never noticed this before. I organized my songs by it, and here is my top twenty most-played songs:

1. Xanadu - Olivia Newton John
2. Dreamgirls - Cast
3. Magic - Olivia Newton John
4. Hips Don't Lie - Shakira
5. Mama Who Bore Me (reprise) - Spring Awakening Cast
6. Back to Black - Amy Winehouse
7. I want candy - Bow Wow Wow
8. Rehab - Amy Winehouse
9. A Lover's Question - Clyde McPhatter
10. Higher Ground - Stevie Wonder
11. The Denial Twist - The White Stripes
12. Intervention - Arcade Fire
13. I'm Alive - Electric Light Orchestra
14. No Sleep Tonight - The Faders
15. 1 2 3 4 - Feist
16. 14th Street - Laura Cantrell
17. Heart of Mine - Peter Salett
18. Los Angeles - Sugarcult
19. Toxic - Britney Spears
20. You Might Think - The Cars

Wanna play too? Go to Itunes, organize your songs by the "play count" column (you will probably need to update to the latest version of itunes to do so). Post the top 20 (or ten, if you only want to do 10) without cheating. (If you love it, own it. I mean, really. If I can own up to two songs from Xanadu, you can own up to your guilty pleasures.)

[livejournal.com profile] thefridayfive has gotten downright bizarre.

1. What is your favourite fruit?
Berries. (particularly blackberries and strawberries).

2. What is the last book you read?
Last book I finished was White Night, the most recent book in the Dresden Files series. (And, lo, it kicked ass). I'm currently reading Steve Martin's autobiography, Born Standing Up.

3. Do you like any of your school photos?
A few. third grade, fifth grade, eighth grade, senior year of HS, and my college portrait were all pretty good. Generally I don't like the way I photograph, though.

4. Do you ever blowdry your armpits to get the deodorant to dry quicker?
Um, no...do people really do this?

5. What was the last film you watched?
Sweeny Todd.

Last night I had a marvelous time out with [livejournal.com profile] alcestis, and it's something that should totally happen more often. We had a lovely dinner (and wine) at Anthony's, and then headed up to Commonwealth for more wine and to visit with Charlene, one of the greatest bartenders I know (after [livejournal.com profile] airspaniel, of course.) We parted ways around 10, and after I got home I decided to try and watch Ugly Betty. Which would have been a great idea if I'd managed to stay awake through the whole thing. (Not so much). No matter, though. Tonight I have a rigorous evening planned for myself of making dinner and spending quality time with the dvr. This week has absolutely kicked my ass, so I think I need a night off to unplug. So I will be unplugging, with the help of new episodes of Gossip Girl, Project Runway, Ugly Betty, and Grey's Anatomy.
