The Misadventures of a Native New Yorker

Let's see.

A team of large men arrived at my apartment (a little late, but I didn't have to pay for it) at 10 am on Thursday, made quick work of my furniture, and arrived in both Brooklyn and Upstate with ease. Seriously, if anyone out there needs a good moving company, go with Delancey Street Movers. The guys were sweet as could be, everyone in the office was terrific, and I had an overall fantastic experience. (Plus, knowing that your movers are really a charity that helps people put their lives back together? It's a nice feeling.) Still, movers FTW.

Anywhoozle, after that, I've mainly been part of Team Apartment Clean-Out. And it's extremely disconcerting how much crap you can cram into a space, no matter how big or small. Yish.

I've started the unpacking process. It's going, but I'm working with j_bkl still about where everything needs to go. See, I have a lot of clothes. A.Lot.of.Clothes. More than I thought, in fact. So, even more need to be gotten rid of now. Maybe.

Today is the last day. I'm starting to settle into my new digs and it's kind of fantastic to be here. Granted, it would be even MORE fantastic if I didn't have a frigging cold! (*@#$(#&*$), but hopefully that will be gone shortly.

J is off starting on his laundry. I'm waiting to hear what the deal is in terms of what's going on today. And that's all the news I have for now.

AUUUUUUUUUUGH.

Okay. What. the. gibbering fuck.

It couldn't snow NEXT week. It couldn't snow LAST week. Oh, no.

IT HAD TO SNOW NOW. WHEN I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF A GODDAMN MOVE. ALKDSJFDSSIAUROIEURAJDFL;ASJDF;LJAF;LDLSJ

(and the furniture is getting stored upstate. Please God, don't let this turn into some kind of expensive clusterfuck tomorrow.)

I hate snow. HATE.

I will not panic about the weather.

I will not stare at the news and the weather report like an obsessive and let them cause me to freak out.

I will not get slowed down by silly, inconsequential things.

I WILL finish the bathroom and kitchen.

I WILL complete packing what's in my room.

I WILL throw out these jeans, because the holes are just embarrassing at this point, and no longer comfy.

Y hallo thar second wind. Thanks for letting me pack moar.

Yesterday (Sunday) was insane. I carried two cars' worth of boxes down all of my many flights of stairs. All by myself. Twice.

Today my arms told me they had no interest in going over a certain point, and if I knew what was good for me, I wouldn't make them.

20 boxes in all. Including FIVE boxes of books, and a crate of records, all of my dvds, and a bunch of other crap. I have too much crap. And I thought I got rid of so much!!!

Anyway. Packing continues apace. I still have some stuff here and there. So much crap. So very much. I keep having nightmares about it all going haywire somehow. I don't know why.

In other news, more friends from Way Back in the Day(tm) are friending me on facebook. We're talking about PRESCHOOL far back. Yikes. In one case this girl and I used to play with Barbies, then she went and turned herself into one. 0.o Weird.

Anyway, I'm going to go and pack more. But yeah. I needed to get the fact that I pushed my body to the freaking breaking point yesterday.

And then somehow, sometime in the next two days I have to figure out how to get my A/C out of my window. That should be a Tail of Grate Lulz. Stay tuned.

Good gravy, I am tired.

Today I got to work at 8:30. I took about 20-30 minutes of lunch (give or take) and about half a dozen 10-15 minute "internet cigarette" breaks. (which allowed me to discover that President Awesome lifted the stupid gag order on international abortion funding. WOO!)

I had hoped I would be able to leave by 6, 6:15 at the latest.

I left at 7:15. 0.o Boss T walked out with me, so at least I looked good.

I think I got some good stuff done. I even left Boss L a note detailing everything I took care of in her absence. Good God, I hope it meets her approval, I really do. Because at the moment, there are bigger fish that need frying.

There is company in the form of shackledangel and her wee, so-cute-she'll-send-you-into-instant-insulin-shock daughter about. I don't want to be rude, but I am kind of coveting unconsciousness. Am going to make one more attempt to call j_bkl at home, then I'm heading out to be social-ish.

Have I ever mentioned how much I hate packing? BECAUSE I DO!

I hate moving, too. It's stressful. Even when you have amazingly awesome friends like lwoodbloo who do you monumental favors and help you out. Because it's just so incomprehensible - the moving things from one place to another. And time consuming. And oh, did I mention stressful? Because it's that, too.

That, and my stuff is breeding in seekrit behind closed doors. True story.
