Here are a few thoughts about some of the shows that I enjoy:
How I Met Your Mother: This was a shock, but shouldn't have been. I knew (as did everyone else) that Stella was not The Mother. However, I was not expecting a runaway bride "Dear Ted" note scenario. I was expecting a Great Big Fight and Tearful Goodbye. I love it when the show can still shock me a little.
Gossip Girl: I'm enjoying the whole Cruel Intentions dance they're doing. I especially love how marvelously complicated Chuck is. And Bratty!Serena is waaay more interesting than regular, bland Serena. Also, I'd very much like it if Eric was in more episodes. He's so interesting, and I want to see more with him and his cute boyfriend! And as much as I love Blair, I love it when her plans blow up in her face. She's 17, she shouldn't be all-powerful yet. She still has a lot to learn.
NCIS is consistently fun, I usually can predict the outcome, and the character arcs continue to give me a happy.
Bones: On Hiatus until after the World Series.
Am I the only one getting seriously fed up with Ugly Betty lately? I get that she's nice and wants to believe the best in people, but this whole Kimmy Keegan storyline is for the birds. I would have loved it if they explored Betty getting to really Mean Girl out, to visit some of the tortures and torments on Kimmy that she received in HS, and to be tormented about enjoying it. I'd love to have seen her have a revelation after winning Mark & Amanda's adoration or something. And also? What kind of father is Ignacio, anyway? I wouldn't have given Betty the "be a bigger person" speech, were she my daughter. It would have been more along the lines of what Hilda told her. No need to make friends with old enemies - remember the fable about the Fox and the Scorpion!
On the opposite side of the coin, I've really been enjoying Grey's Anatomy this season. I feel like they have their groove back. (Well, more last week than this week, but still.) The humor is back on target. I'm loving that the hospital losing its top rankings along with the show slipping. I feel like the show has the potential to get back some of what made it initially awesome.
And Supernatural. Yes, this week was uneven. I think they had too many ideas, and not enough edits. Either the ENTIRE episode should have been through Dean's rapidly deteriorating perspective, or none of it. I also agree that his "infection" made little sense and I hated how they had to put the ghost to rest. ::shudder:: This one was pushed through in a hurry, and you can tell. Especially after last week's great Monster Movie ep, and along with this amazing season-long Good vs. Evil/Brother Vs. Brother arc. Still, I love any exhibition of Jensen's wonderful comic chops, as this episode had. The scream after the cat jumps out of the locker? LOL.
I can forgive them a tiny slip when they give me treasures like this one:
Still. laughing. You know that kind of laughing where you're laughing so hard that you can't make any noise? That's what I did. <3 Jensen.
Then again, we knew that since his little Asia-themed dance in "Mystery Spot":
Sam seems to do better in the wacky episodes. The one with the rabbit's foot also comes to mind ("I lost my shoe.")
True Blood I'm enjoying, but it's hard to discuss since I was such a fan of the book it was based on. I also don't want to accidentally spoil anything.
Mad Men: Jeez. Even after getting accidentally spoiled for one part earlier in the week, I'm still in shock over "the Mountain King." Joan, dump the bastard, dump him hard. You can do better. Really. I promise. OMG. I am proud of Peggy though. And Betty is out of her damn mind, and permanently. I'm torn between wanting Don to rescue his kids and wanting him to stay faaar away. I kind of wish he stayed with the Real Mrs. Draper, as she seems really awesome.
Also? Still don't miss Heroes. At all.
