The Far side of the world.
Nov. 21st, 2003 10:37 amOh...my...God. I do not know WHAT I was expecting from this movie (a few mildly pleasant hours with Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany) but I was blown clear out of my seat by Master & Commander. So good!! It was moving, exciting, and Russell Crowe was just sooofuckinggood. And Peter Weir does wonderful things with a camera. Every new scene I was impressed again about how well that man can frame a shot. Also, if this movie doesn't get nominated for cinematography at the LEAST, there is something very very wrong with the academy.
heh. award season is upon us, and I'm done hiding. I am a Golden Globe/Oscar geek! whee! heh. .
Mostly, I was suprised and impressed about how an 'action' film could create such rich characters that had a deep emotional connection to the audience, while the new drama I had just seen (Mona Lisa Smile) had failed to do this.
( Spoilers, some might say )
I may have to read the books. That was fun!! Almost made me sorry that I don't take a ferry home. Almost.
The film got out around 9:40, so we decided it was early enough to do something else. Thankfully we got some ice for Jeff's hand (wrapped in a vodka tonic), and chatted for awhile. 2 drinks later and I was pretty out of my head.
I didn't finally get to bed until 1:30. Woke up normal time. I took a nap on the train going in to work but am still getting distracted by shiny things. Bleh. But friday=good. Tomorrow is going to be about SLEEEEEEEP. At least part of the day, anyhow. The Union Square Holiday market opens tomorrow. Or maybe since it'll be so nice I'll do that sojourn to 5th avenue in the slope that I've been meaning to do for AGES now (and get to go into the stores while they're open, and not be dragged past the lit windows drunk after leaving Loki at 2am.) Just want to be out in daylight.
and now for the illusion of productivity....
