offbalance: (hometown by antheia)
The last two nights have been the kind of nights where I sit back, sigh, and say a little thank you to whatever powers in existence placed me in New York City. Cheesy as it may sound, it's true. After the fun times that were had at Zanzibar on Friday, I had a lovely day out in Brooklyn with Carly & Tim. We looked at possible wedding shoes for Carly, but found nothing but a few ideas. After that were the very best gyros in the world at the Oasis, and then skating in Marine Park. It was great to catch up with them about everything that's been going on, and they said that we don't see each other nearly enough (true) and that should change (yay!) aaaand that they want to meet B one of these days soon, after picking me for every last detail about him. (well, that's to be expected...)

Last night found B and I in Chinatown...I was early, he was a few minutes late (yes, you read that right. I was early . I know, I'm shocked, too!) He had been running errands all day, and wanted to know if I minded waiting a few minutes so that he could get his haircut. I didn't, and I mostly tried and failed to read more of the awfulness that is Limbo, finally hitting on what bothers me so much about it. (Mostly what I talked about in my last post I think this is going to be one book I just don't finish, as I actually am relieved and happy when I don't get a chance to read. I told B all of this, as he was searching around for a copy to read, and he told me to not bother going any further in it unless I really wanted to, as two other people from our writing group had given up on it as well. He's borrowing one of their copies, insistant that he'd destroy my paperback. I don't think I stressed enough about how little of a problem that would be, but whatever. *sigh*

We had a yummy dinner at Sweet -n- Tart cafe on Mott, and then Bubble tea at Ten Ren. After we got our teas, we took a walk west through Little Italy, eventually winding up in Washington Square park. The park was filled with all sorts of people, from the normal to the fairly sketchy, but we had a seat by the fountain (of course, not an easy thing to do in a skirt!) for awhile, until I knocked my purse over backwards. Being the self-sufficient girl that I am, I tried to oh-so-slyly swing my legs around to retrieve it, but I overcompensated and wound up falling off of the side and onto the ground, in a spectacular display of grace and balance. Ow.

Not wanting me to be afflicted with further injury, B suggested we keep walking, and possibly check out the group of people that were gathered near the arch. It turned out to be some sort of jam session - acoustic & electric guitars softly playing the hits of yesteryear. I only say yesteryear because the most current thing they played was "More than a Feeling" by Boston. But it was such a great moment - all of these people were gathered in the park, singing and singing along, playing great music and just hanging out. the setlist )

It was such a great, classic, special moment that I wish I could have packed up and put into a box to show my grandkids someday.

Right now I have to go and fall down on something soft for awhile, and eat something - I'm going to be meeting up with B and some others to see Riddick tonight!

(also - what's going on with Broadway Under the Stars tomorrow? Anything? Bueller?)
