That old black rum has a hold on me...
Jul. 18th, 2004 11:34 pmThis weekend was just non-stop.
After I dragged my exhausted self home on Thursday for some much-needed rest and showering, I felt much better. Mmmm...sleeep.
Woke up at around 11 or so Friday morning (rah rah days off) and headed to the club with the parents. The weather was kind of iffy, and it wasn't warm enough to swim, but it was good to just be there.
Friday night I went out with B, OtherJ, and B's friend T (who is another resident of Avenue Q - and actually lives farther out than I do. I wasn't sure that was even possible, but apparently, it is!) We started with drinks at Ike, then dinner at Gahndi (on East 6th). I haven't laughed that much in ages, especially during the earlier part of the evening when B and OtherJ were taking shots at each other. Good times.
I had decided on skipping Siren this year after Great Big Sea was rescheduled to Saturday. I actually don't regret that decision at all - last years crowds, heat and insanity got in the way of my enjoyment of the music. So I just spent a lovely, hot day at the beach club before
quasisonic and I left to meet
trebleahead and
leopard_lady at the diner near Strand.
The show was basically eh. Spin Doctors were pretty good, but their sound mix was abysmal. So bad, that B and
leopard_lady and I dashed out for most of their set to recover. Big Head Todd were awful. I remember them being poppy and fun, they were just depressing and boring. But in between, Great Big Sea played an energetic, marvelous set (sadly lacking in "Yarmatown," but at least they played "Paddy Murphy."). They just blow me away - their energy is contagious, you can just tell how grateful they are to be up there and playing their music their way and being loved for it. Also, bonus points to them for calling Newfoundland the "Hawaii of Canada," and inviting all the ladies to bring their tiniest bikinis and visit in January or February. I ♥ [lead singer] Alan. Truly. They need to headline a show soon. Preferably with the Push Stars or something. That was a great show.
Today I just came home and collapsed. I was beyond exhausted. But I'm better now, and will be even better after a night of lovely lovely sleep.
I really hated Six Feet Under. In a major way. I'm going to watch next week, because I want to see what's going on with Claire, but if not for next week's preview, I'd be totally done with the show. Completely.
Entourage failed to capture my interest. It was Sex & the City minus the wit and self-awareness. It might be a by-product of my mood, but I can't be sure.
Still, I'm not going to let it spoil what was an otherwise lovely weekend. Oh no.
