[livejournal.com profile] gothamist had a link to this article this morning, and it caught my attention. I may add the following quote to my profile:

It was therapeutic, relatively safe and vastly preferable to, say, slashing my boyfriend's tires. To my faceless Internet audience, I could express raw, sometimes grossly undignified aspects of my day-to-day life without fear of being judged, misunderstood or rejected (at least not to my face).

Firstly, and most importantly, happy happy birthday to my wonderful & amazing Mom. ::hugs::

This was a great weekend - the kind of weekend that leaves your heart full and your wallet empty.

It all started on soggy Friday, when I attended [livejournal.com profile] tacologic's birthday bash at Agave. Nestled in the back corner of a long table surrounded by some of my favorite people, we all drank, told stories and stuffed ourselves on traded quesadillas. At first, [livejournal.com profile] thatpr0nguy & I were just going to trade some of his steak-filled ones for some of my crab-filled ones. But then [livejournal.com profile] laughingirl jumped in with some of her chorizo & plaintain-filled (which were so good, I regretted not getting them myself) and [livejournal.com profile] quasisonic with her chicken, apples & brie-filled ones (good, but not as good if not balanced). Remember kids - sharing means caring, and lots of tasty good food. And always order a prickly pear margarita if they're on the menu.

Sadly I was too tired to join the skirted Birthday Boy and company to see Too much light makes the Baby go blind, though I was interested. I had to rest up for Saturday!

Now, I had a fantastic time Friday night. Truly. Still, in many ways, it was merely a warm up for the spectacular Saturday I had, which will probably go down in the Top 5 of Saturdays of all time. It started mundanely enough, what with the receipt of my allergy shot (am now back to once a month. Hurrah!) and unfortunately being late to meet the girls for an amazing girlie day!

[livejournal.com profile] alcestis, [livejournal.com profile] blergeatkitty, [livejournal.com profile] laughingirl, [livejournal.com profile] quasisonic, [livejournal.com profile] teany & I met for lunch at Duke's after being rebuffed by the stick figures at Coffee Shop and the blockheads at Candela (private function my ASS!) . We ate, we dished, [livejournal.com profile] laughingirl had to catch a flight. Then there were manicures, including my very first French one. I admit it, I'm a convert. Still hate French pedicures, but the manicures are great. We had a prize for first wrecked manicure. I'm pretty sure I was second place - later on at the party I attended (more on that later), while drunkenly trying to rise from a papasan chair, I wound up squishing (and probably nearly breaking) a finger. Of course, in my inebriated state, the first thing I noticed was how I chipped the polish in the center of that nail. And then the throbbing pain began.

We also saw Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason. I didn't hate it, but I begrudgingly had to agree with many assessments made by the Times ' movie critic, as much as I hate doing that. The director went for cheap laughs over more subtle ones in many cases. She made sure that Bridget/Renee was shot from the worst possible angle, in the worst possible lighting, usually after falling into mud, dirty water, or a pile of makeup. What saved it were terrific performances by Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, particularly while fighting in the fountain. (Even though I liked the fight from the first movie a little better). After the movie we decided to indulge in a highly literary pasttime, and that was to engage in dramatic readings of romance novel scens at the Union Square B&N, and the final scene (read by [livejournal.com profile] alcestis), had to be the highlight.

After that was a terrific party for the birthday of [livejournal.com profile] queenmother49. There was beer. And then champagne. And cake from the Cupcake Cafe. And then there was a cosmo, and drunken rambling on my part at their very very nice new flatmate. And I ate lots of icing. And then [livejournal.com profile] antheia made me a cosmo. Best part of the night was [livejournal.com profile] queenmother49's telling of "The Night Kate Drank 10 Cosmos." It gets a little more epic (and a lot funnier) with every telling.

Sunday [livejournal.com profile] quasisonic & I took our mom out for brunch at Blue Water Grill (after we were yet again rebuffed by Candela), and loved it. It wasn't outrageously expensive, and we got to sit in their 'jazz room', complete with live band.

I was also going to keep writing about shopping and trying Jamba Juice and all that stuff, but now I have a headache and things to finish.

Something tells me that I haven't heard the last from this sinus infection. Ow.
