So I watched Crash.

The most amazing part was the discovery that Ryan Phillippe can act. Matt Dillon was very good, and I would be happy to see him win (would be interesting to see what they'll do with Johnny Drama/Vince next season of Entourage if they do). Surprisingly, I think Ludacris plenty one of my favorite characters, along with the locksmith and his family.

The rest of the film did not impress. I found it pandering and emotionally manipulative, and I felt like it tried too hard to say what it wanted to say, and took far too many shortcuts with the story. I also felt like there was no arc nor central point that tied everyone together (like Traffic, which I really liked). I don't feel like it deserved to be nominated. But that's just me.

Thanks to various nefarious sources, I'm nearly able to watch Capote in the comfort of my own home. Until then, I'll finish watching this lovely new print of Funny Girl that's on TCM. I usually laugh at people who swear up and down about how important it is to see things in widescreen format (I prefer it, but that's just me), but I can't believe how much of this film I was missing in pan & scan. It feels like a different movie! As this is one of my favorite movies ever, that's reason enough to get the dvd, I think. *nod nod*.

Tomorrow is the reading. Barbes. 6pm.

Tonight? I relax.
