As much as I am loathe to admit it, perhaps staying home and doing little more that watch the Independent Spirit Awards Saturday night was for the best. I actually started to feel better yesterday morning, and the cough from hell has been downgraded to a minor annoyance. I also saw a surprisingly good movie that I recommend to all and sundry. (particularly fans of romantic comedies) What I found surprising was that Something New not only was not afraid of challenging its audience or discussing an uncomfortable issue, but that it did so in such an intelligent and entertaining way. Plus, it had a lot of heart.
I am so very, very, very tired of being sick. Almost to the point of paranoia. This has been one of my worst winters in eons, and I'm really eager for it to be over. I'd like to not be sick on my birthday, thanks.
Yesterdays were the Oscars (as well as a fab Oscar gathering). The only reason I enjoyed the ceremony even slightly was a direct result of the company I was in. I was pleased with the awards, though - I only missed three categories on my company's Oscar pool (Best Art Direction and Best Supporting Actor - I had Dreamgirls down for both, and I thought for sure that Pan's Labyrinth would win best Foreign. Silly rabbit. I forgot that the Academy hates genre except in FX categories). Hurrah for Martin Scorsese, Alan Arkin, Jennifer Hudson, and The Departed, though. And double hurrah if I win one of the prizes at work, which are usually bundles of movie passes.
Lunchtime is approaching. I have my usual soup + salad, but I'm in the mood for baked ziti. I will not be having said ziti, for obvious reasons, but I'm almost certain that it's the weather (as well as hormones) causing the want in my brain. I'd also like a nap - I got home somewhat late last night and despite this morning's tea I think I might be beginning to crash. We shall see.
