offbalance: (train)
This morning as [livejournal.com profile] j_bkl and I left his place, I mentioned that I needed to take the B today, since we were running late. The B actually takes me to Rockefeller Center, which is much closer to my office than 57th & 7th, where the Q ends up. Naturally, when the B showed up, it was PACKED. After running and cursing to wedge myself in, J gave up and said he was going to take the Q that was pulling in. Unfortunately, I was so busy trying to wedge myself in that I did not get a chance to get my goodbye kiss. (I know I'm seeing him later, but still. *pout*). So, I get shoved in and around and knocked around and I frantically try to grab on to something.

Since I'm used to the F train, I'm used to their slightly different cars, which have a small bar on the seats next to the door that you can hold on to. I didn't realize the B didn't have these bars, and I accidentally brushed the arm of a guy sitting in the seat. I quickly apologized, but this bastion of grace and charm told me that my "sorry" wasn't good enough, and he'd "slap the shit out of [me]" if I touched him again. What's more, is that he threatened a guy who gave him a dirty look on my behalf, telling him not "to be a fucking hero," or else. People like that make me wish I carried a taser. You threaten me, I provide you with several thousand volts to the neck. Fair trade, really.

I've been wedging myself into crowded B trains for most of my life, and usually it shows you how great people can be - one particularly packed car led to a human chain from the pole in my favorite case, once a girl asked me if I liked the book I was trying to read one-handed and we had a nice discussion, or people make jokes and make the best of a bad situation. Usually you don't get some swaggering asshole who decides the best way to deal with his mood is to threaten you. Again. Taser. Neck. Many, many times.

At least it's Friday, right? And I'm reasonably sure I got a decent amount of sleep, so.
