offbalance: (alton brown multi-purpose)
There is one word to describe yesterday, and that word is dull. Seriously. The day just dragged.

So, as I sometimes do when I am feeling in need of a creative jolt, I start looking around for something interesting to make for dinner. I had a bunch of boneless pork chops to make for dinner, and I wanted to do something a little different than I usually do with them. After some googling and some time on Epicurious and Allrecipes.com, I eventually found what I was looking for on my new favorite recipe site, Recipezaar.com. The hardest part was all the chopping. I'm not great at coring or peeling apples, so that took some time (I have GOT to get a better vegetable peeler. This 99 cent store special I have is not cutting it, pardon the pun). I do very much agree with those emphatic reviews on the site that said real maple syrup was important to the flavor of the dish. It really gave it a great flavor. And now I have good maple syrup and good cider in the fridge, so it's kind of a win-win.

The best part was when J finally came home. He told me that this "wonderful smell" had filled the entire hallway leading to our apartment, and he was absolutely delighted to find that it was eminating from our kitchen. Between that and him going to get bread to sop up the juice/gravy left behind, I felt rather proud of my accomplishment. I've tried all sorts of recipes on my own with various levels of success, but it's always fun to not only have it be a success for yourself, but for others as well. We will certainly be having this again. And there are leftovers, which will either be consumed tonight or tomorrow. Today I am treating myself to some kind of lunch out, whenever I decide on what it should be.
