+ I’m having dinner with an old Jeopardy friend tonight – Fran!! So excited. We’re going out for New York Restaurant week also, so I’m double-psyched. We're having dinner at ilili, which she picked, but I'm looking forward to after [livejournal.com profile] redesigner raved about it.

- I didn’t get to bed until 1 last night. For no reason whatsoever. Just messing around with stuff in the apartment.

+ Covert Affairs on USA. I was hoping for fun, and it was a lot more fun than I was expecting. Also, the dude who played Henry on Ugly Betty plays a blind dude that would make Ray Charles proud as hell – he gets around with minimal assistance, is hilarious, kicks ass at his job, and gets more ass than a toilet seat. Awesome blind guy, I salute thee. (in fact, I kind of wish the whole show was about him, but alas. I’m going to give Piper Perabo’s protagonist a chance to grow before I make up my mind about her. Especially since there’s no more In Plain Sight until next season. ::sulk:: )

+ A fine bumper crop from the CSA included BASIL. OMG. I AM SO HAPPY. In a vintage mouse-cookie moment, I ended up on Cortelyou road (also to return a dvd to the library and pick up a copy of the Best of American Splendor – more on that in a minute) and wound up buying fresh mozzarella, a baguette, and wine. I love having the kind of wine store where I can waltz in, the dude knows me, and I can say, “Hey, what’s cold?” he asks me one question, then I have amazing wine. (The question was “Buttery and oaky or crisp and fruity. I chose the latter, he said “excellent,” and handed me a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc that was lovely. And a screw-top, so it’ll be easy to enjoy over several days.) I then came home and made more zucchini fritters, fried eggplant, and broiled some sausages to have for dinner.

- My oven is on steroids, and keeps burning stuff. I am unpleased. It scorched my banana bread the other day (still tasty, though) and also over-crisped the fritters.

- Harvey Pekar died this week. Sadly, it took the movie version of American Splendor to introduce me to the man, but I loved the movie, and I loved what I've read of the comic so far. I also, as mentioned, about to start a compendium of the "Best of" the series, so there's that. Still sucks that he's gone - I read the new American Splendors that came out a couple of years ago and I thought they were terrific. RIP, dude. Have fun talking to Charlie Parker and hanging out with Crumb again.

- it is not yet Friday. And when it is Friday, I don't have my usual early release tomorrow. *sigh*

- I haven’t done my PT stretches in two days because I’ve been doing so much damn cooking, but it feels necessary because I have SO MUCH FOOD OMG. At least a lot is made now, and there are leftovers and I don’t have to cook for a few days.

+ One more sleep until VACATION. OMG. SO excited.
