Of all the times...

When I stood up from my bed this morning, a massive headache began. So rather than try to suffer or tough it out, I took a full dose of Excedrin (usually I only take one. Today, I took two). Suffice it to say I'm now stupidly chipper as a result, and at least temporarily headache-free.
Not that there aren't potential headaches on the horizon, mind you. I'm *supposed* to fly to St.Louis on Friday morning to visit
zyll, something I've really been looking forward to (understatement of the century). Unfortunately, American Airlines decided that this week would be an excellent time to ground half to three-quarters of their entire fleet and cancel several hundred flights. Now, I know that the faulty wiring in the MD-80 aircraft is nothing to joke about and that it's very good that they're dealing with it before something dire could happen, but I kind of wish this is something they dealt with a week or a month ago, or several months ago, when all the pilots were starting to bitch about these planes.
Reminds me of a story my dad told me about flying Delta back when they were a fledgling carrier in the 1970s. His flight either to or from Atlanta was delayed, and he and the rest of the passengers were left waiting at the gate for the pilots. When they arrived, the pilot and co-pilot were deep into an argument. They got on the plane, but didn't let the passengers on. They started the engines at least three times, still without allowing anyone to board. Finally, the pilot and co-pilot exited off the plane, still arguing. My dad didn't catch more than one tiny snippet, but then again, everyone at the gate heard the pilot yell:
"If that asshole thinks this piece of shit can get into the air, then let him fucking fly it!"
They wound up borrowing an aircraft from another airline.
The version of my flight that was scheduled for today was canceled. I have no idea if that's going to still be the case on Friday, but we shall see. Either way, I'll have my laptop with me at the airport. Thalia is taking her first airplane ride! I'm not sure if I'll use the time to write, watch movies, or what, but I'll have it with me. I will probably wind up reading and listening to my ipod as usual, but I usually get a good amount of writing done while flying, so it might be nice to have the option. If, yanno, my flight isn't canceled or anything. Cross your fingers for me that all of this is sorted out by tomorrow.
