This morning I decided to mosey over to the Grand Pool complex at the MGM - I've been to my hotel's separate pool (yes, the Signature has a pool no one else is allowed to use but Guests here. Nyah.) But we're allowed to use the fuge pool complex at the MGM - which includes a river and 4 pools and a hot tub. So I decided to rent a tube and float.
Now, some of you who know me fairly well probably are already giggling at ideas of what ensued. Once I actually got INTO said inner tube (thanks to the help of a woman of the steps near me) and got moving, I proceeded to spend the next 20 or so minutes hurtling around in circles, bashing into people like a pinball, and nearly running over a small boy in a life vest. I finally jumped out of the tube and stuck myself through the middle so I could kick my legs, and things mostly went better after that. I went around the river about 3 times total, only with minor incident. It was...interesting.
Honestly, I prefer the little pool next to the hotel, I think - if only to avoid the massive crush of humanity in the big one.
Today we opted out of the con and instead hit up a nearby outlet mall. I got a nice pair of sneakers, a pair of workout shorts, and a wallet, but
redesigner did much, much better. He got a ton of stuff.
Yesterday the con was fun, even though NO ONE noticed my Edith Keeler outfit. Hmph. There was a drag queen Deanna Troi who looked incredible. When we first saw her, we had no idea it was a queen. There were more younger people, though, which was a good thing. The best part of yesterday was Brent Spiner and Marina Sirtis's appearance. They were absolutely and completely hilarious. They picked on each other. They (gently) picked on the really stupid questions and monologuers. Mostly? They just made us laugh and laugh and laugh.
A few highlights:
Marina: [To the drag queen Troi]: Oh my God, Brent! It's ME!
Brent: But you're up here!
Marina: No, the old me.
Question Asker: So, Brent - are you trying to be the next Patrick Stewart?
Marina: Nah, he'd have to start dating 20-year-olds for that!
Question Asker: What are you doing in the present, and in the future?
Brent: [Points to the stage] This is the present! Right now! And now, now it's the future! And the future again!
After that, we headed over to Star Trek: The Experience. The Borg Invasion 4-D was honestly pretty lame. I'd been hopeful at first, but it was just sort of half-assed, in my opinion. I LOVED the Klingon Encounter, though. I thought the storytelling devices were much better, and the fact that we had to interact with actual people made it a bit more fun. But I think what it boiled down to was that I got to spend time on the "actual" Enterprise-D (and a better story, but that's besides the point). Borg Invasion was just set on some random space station, but this one took place on the actual decks, and you had to run around and do stuff. (The people we did it with were a sarcastic bunch, so that made it extra fun, as did a brief "technical difficulty" that they had to fix before the ride started. It allowed us to chat with some fellow riders, which was fun. I met a girl who was going to Vassar in the fall and her mom, who used to live in Hell's Kitchen in the 1970s.)
The ride began on a transporter pad and ended in spectacular fashion on a boisterous shuttlecraft ride. Plus, I'll take Klingons over the Borg any day. As a villain, they're far more colorful and interesting. I'm really sad that the Star Trek Experience is closing down, too. Although there are rumors flying that they're trying to and may have already found a home for the place on the Strip! I really hope that's true.
And now, I'm going to go prettify.
redesigner and I are going to hit the casino for a bit before we head over to dinner and then the Beatles Cirque de Solei show. Should be a good time!
One last amusing note. The hotel staff must think I'm his wife, because every time I've talked to anyone on the phone, it's been "Thank you, Mrs.
redesigner," or, "Is there anything else I can help you with, Mrs.
redesigner?" It's not stopped being funny yet.
