Planning ahead.

Firstly, very happy birthdays to
missgyder and
herrsprengstoff!!!
j_bkl and I have been discussing New Year's Eve plans for about a month or so. Neither of us likes the idea of a night in, nor are we the type to pay ridiculous amounts for bottle service at some douchebag emporium. My hope and idea the last two years was to find a great concert to ring in the new year with. Last year I was SOL unless I wanted to see M.O.E. at radio city. (Hint: my response to that rhymes with the band's name!)
I was hopeful about this year when The New Pornographers announced they'd be playing a NYE show at Irving Plaza. Price was a tiny bit steep, but for a good band and a decent venue, I could deal. Then, they canceled. Then I heard that Yo La Tengo would be playing a New Year's Eve show! But it's in Montclair. I have no desire to trek that far. If I had a car, the idea of highways on New Year's gives me an unhappy feeling. And I don't have a car, so traveling two hours each way (or longer!) for a band I kinda like is unappealing, at best. Especially since they'll be playing at the much-closer Maxwell's for 8 nights beforehand.
I keep hoping someone really good is going to announce a great NYE show, but the odds seem unlikely at best.
I watched Project Runway instead of the debate last night. I keep trying to regret this, but I can't seem to.
Otherwise, GO PHILLIES!! \o/
