Still, I had a wonderful time. La Boheme? Beyond words. The sets were breathtaking. It's no surprise to me that the music has survived for so long - I doubt I've heard anything as powerful, or as beautiful. Makes me wish that instead of speaking I could just sing in Italian all of the time (which would be a real accomplishment, as I can't even speak it!) . The true highlight was the Rudolpho I saw - Kanen Breen was his name (provided I spelled it all properly). The only thing better than his soaring voice was his acting skills - it was almost as if he felt and believed every word he said. He's the reason I've had "O soave fanciulla" in my head since last night. *swoon* And whomever decided to put translations on screens by the stage should be given a medal. Best.Idea.Ever. It made things even more emotional, since I knew exactly what was being said.
I still can't believe this is closing on June 29th!! There's no justice in the world - utter and complete crap like Beauty & the Beastcan be on for years and years and years, and La Boheme barely finishes one. *disgusted*
And wow, could Rent come any closer? It's practically a line-by-line translation!! (Though some major liberties are taken in the second act, it's still very close).
Only 2 regrets: 1. Sitting in the back of the orchestra instead of the front Mezz. That was dumb.
2. Buying a program instead of the soundtrack. Duh on me. (Still! have placed a hold on a version of the opera on cd at the Donnell library, hopefully to be picked up later today.
hermionesviolin would be so proud!)
I'm also planning on buying myself a pink beret next time I see one on Canal Street. Hopefully I'll be able to find a Rudolpho soon as well. *sigh* (do those even exist as functional members of society? one has to wonder.)
But ugh - it's muggy out, and the medications I had to take for a spectacular sinus headache that began last night and continues to this moment are making me queasy. At least I'm going home tonight for some quality sleeptime, before going out tomorrow.
and now, to work. (and check and see if the Donnell has acknowledged my hold on a LB cd yet...)
