First of all, Happy birthday
oatmilk!
Whee! I LOVE the Virgin Megastore! Thanks to them, the 3 and a half minutes of pure pop perfection that is "Are you gonna be my girl?" by Jet is now MINE. And I didn't have to buy the whole freaking (and not as good) cd.
I have a shitty internet connection, and could not download it off of a legal or illegal mp3 site. I didn't want to send anyone looking for it. It was in the store and I spent the same amount on it (and 3 other songs) that I would have on a legal site. It was an impulse buy, but one that pleased me greatly.
Plus,
quasisonic got something there that I may have to go back and get Catherine for Christmas. I'm just worried she may already have it, but I'm willing to take that risk.
Yesterday was a very productive day, shopping wise. In exchange for picking up
quantumchick's present (or more properly, part of it),
quasisonic bought me 2 Sandman books to cover what she owed me. WHEE! Now I just have to finish Franny and Zooey (which is excellent) so I can start Brief Lives.
I also found myself in Strand yesterday, surrounded by ALL sorts of books that I wanted. I seriously could have walked out of there with at least 6. Among them? Tropic of Capricorn by Henry Miller. Two different non-Jane Eyre Charlotte Bronte books. The Forsyte Saga by Gallsworthy. This nice little T.S. Elliot collection that had both "The Wasteland" and "Prufrock" in it. Eggers' A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. Plus one or two others I am now forgetting. And considering I took my pda with me yesterday, it was downright stupid of me not to write all the names down. *sigh* Still, it's all about the library lately. I have NO room for more books, even at Strand prices.
As it was I spent a ton yesterday. It felt like, anyway. Mostly on other people. I only bought a frankincense-scented candle at the Union Square fair and that cd for myself (as well as supplies for my cd burner. Can't forget those). But I ended up going out to eat like 3 different times (a diner, Heartland Brewery, and then dessert at Cosi), so that does it too. Happily, I got Gyda's ornament for her party (it's so cute - it has a little lamb on it and it says 'Fleece Navidad!') and I finished off Carly's present, and started
quasisonic's. I'm coming to the rather uncomfortable conclusion that I'm going to need to go to Times Square on one day during lunch next week to go to two different stores. Le Sigh. There is no really good time to go to TS, but I'd rather go when less people are out, and have found that sometimes the traffic there is lighter at 1 in th afternoon rather than at 6 in the evening.
Now I'm going to wash up, eat some leftover chinese food and then go and get my hair done. Maybe I'll watch part of a movie while I do it.
