Apparently my body didn't receive the memo that you're not supposed to get colds in the summer. @#$%*&$#!!!! I'm pretty sure it's a cold, as the Zyrtec did exactly crap to help me yesterday. Therefore, I am supremely cranky.
Not helping matters is the fact that I'm witnessing concrete proof of the milk saucer theory yet again. You know the old saying that if you leave out a saucer of milk, soon you'll be feeding all the cats in the neighborhood? One of the agents asked Boss T as a favor to have me scan a 'few' (ie shit ton) copyright certificates for them and email them to one of the interns for their filing project. It took for fucking ever, and was a giant pain in the ass to boot. Now? Guess who's back, back again? Because we did it before?? I just love it - to my immediate department I'm a vital part of day-to-day activities, and wear many hats. To everyone else? I'm a file jockey and scanner bitch. And I HATE it. Why this agency can't call the fucking US Copyright Office their own damn selves is beyond me. I have REAL WORK to do here, people! There are amendments and agreements that I haven't had a chance to draft because I'm running around getting 4 million contracts scanned into docushare for 78 different people, only one of which (Leah) knows how to say "thank you."
Well, fuck them right in the ear. I'll get to this 'when I have time.' (which is office-speak for "take a number, bub.") There's more to my damned job than fucking scanning, and that 'more' sometimes requires everyone's precious docushare to wait it out for a week or so while I do the 18 other things I'm asked to do per day. If Boss T hadn't specifically asked me not to, I'd have no qualms with saying I was 'too busy' for something. Because I am fucking busy. I take little 5-10 minute LJ breaks every now and again to stay sane, but that's it. If I don't look away from proofing a contract, I go crosseyed, and I skim. Not good things, mind you.
I feel better now. I'm going to go back to work, and try to remember that no matter how badly today sucks, I have tomorrow off.
