MY NEW TOY WENT OUT FOR DELIVERY THIS MORNING HOLY CRAP. *excited*

Anyway, last night an awesome time was had by all ([livejournal.com profile] alcestis, [livejournal.com profile] tacologic, [livejournal.com profile] quasisonic, [livejournal.com profile] teany, [livejournal.com profile] thatpr0nguy, [livejournal.com profile] greensward and a couple others) at movieoke, where it seemed like our table was trading off basically with the other people who either run the thing, are friends with people who run the thing, or are regulars like us. I myself was a big attention hor and was in about 5 scenes. But it was the total and complete steam/stress release I needed from the week.
details, for the interested, curious, or present )

I'm on the fence about Nellie McKay for tonight. On the one hand, she's great and I like her music, on the other:
1. It might rain
2. The rigamarole for free tickets is annoying at best
3. It's in Central Park
4. It's way uptown in Central Park.
5. I got home at 1am last night. I'm tiired.

I chased the Ravonettes around all last summer the way I've been chasing her around this one. And I finally got to see them in pretty great circumstances, finally, in May. So I'll see how today plays out. But if how I feel at the moment is any indication, I may be going home to faceplant.

Burnout

A short but interesting article that I related to more than I expected to. I think it's good I have my minibreak now.

An excerpt:

I picked up a fork and explained that as long as I used it for eating, the fork would last indefinitely. However, if I began to use it to drive nails or dig trenches, it would soon break. The key was to use it for what it was designed to do.

The look in his eyes told me he got it, but I still went on to say that people are like the fork. When they do what they are not designed to do, they eventually break.

I know that the weather outside is beautiful. However, the weather inside my head is not.

I'm going home. I'm not fit for human company.

But apparently during a 45 minute phone convo with my mom this afternoon, she told me:
"You don't have to be human around me. I'm here to listen and love you even when you're miserable and think you're being cranky and awful. Because that's what I do." ♥

And I'm sure had my dad been on the phone he would have echoed that sentiment. Yeah. My parents kind of rock.

I'm adding this for posterity, and because I want something tangible to point to when people ask me why I'm on some level so reluctant to move out.

So I'm going home to hide. I'll re-emerge when I'm somewhat more human.
