It. Figures.
Jan. 5th, 2006 09:42 amI woke up this morning with a sore throat and nicely swollen glands. Unpleasant, definitely. But downright intolerable once I've received terrible news.
According to NY1, the 2nd Avenue Deli is closed. The reason? The new landlords want to raise the rent to $33,000 a MONTH. While they may not be gone for good, I'm not optimistic.
Obviously, these landlords want to cater to the idiot suburban expatriate crowd with another Jamba Juice, TGI Friday's or Olive Garden, and push out a landmark. ("OMG I LUV NYC LIEK SO MUCH! But u no it could really use a cheesecake factory lolz! ::machinegun::) I know that they're a tad overpriced, but where the fuck else am I going to get decent matzoh ball soup if they're gone? The Carnegie's is terrible, I've heard worse things about Katz's, and I'm not sure if Cafe Edison does takeout. Has anyone tried the new place on Court Street, Nosh? Reviews of the soup on chowhound were not kind. Fresh Direct's is okay, but a hassle to get. Short of begging my parents to bring me stuff from the Mill Basin deli, what's a girl to do?
Not to mention the fact that I CAN'T GET SICK NOW. I HAVE NO ROOM IN MY SCHEDULE FOR ILLNESS UNTIL MID-FEBRUARY. I don't get it. I've been basically good to myself all week - good homemade food, taking my vitamins, getting decent sleep, and NOW I get sick? Months of bad habits left me healthy, and a week of good treatment made me ill. I don't get it. *sigh*
