Rising from Arizona

So, after returning home from the absolutely lovely memorial service for antheia & queenmother49's father, I was looking forward to a quiet evening in.

Puck and Laura arrived not too long after I did. I was talking to Laura in the kitchen for a bit when Puck called me into their room to show me a picture.

It was familiar, but I couldn't get why it was special.

He said, "I just thought you'd be excited - after all I got it off of your old hard drive."
Me: What????

Apparently, he'd had the idea some months ago that the actual plates with my data were fine, it was just the circuit board that had gone kerfluey. All we'd need to do is frankenstein a circuit board in from the same kind of drive and we'd be able to get the stuff off. They didn't want to tell me, because they weren't sure it would work. They had a little help from a guy who works in her office with getting the spare drive, but they tested the theory.

AND. IT. WORKED.

As of now, I have about 90% of my stuff back. We're going to work on the other 10% this weekend (a few albums and things I'm going to have to somehow extract from itunes if I can. All of my video downloads are pretty much toast, but that's no biggie). I'm as thrilled as you might expect. This is amazing. This is better than I could have hoped for. And I'm SO thankful that it came about.

And now, I'm going to shower and try to get some sleep. I can't manage to get into bed and asleep before 1, and that's not enough Sharon Sleep Time by a long shot.
