Five things about today.
Dec. 19th, 2007 12:01 pm1. Bosses T and L are off starting tomorrow. T comes back next week, but L is out until the New Year.
2. I saw Juno this past Sunday, and was pretty disappointed. It was kind of like what would happen if Wes Anderson and Jared Hess got together and decided to remake and reimagine Knocked Up. That might not have been terrible, if they'd had a better script. I don't know why everyone is going so crazy about Diablo Cody - she can't write dialogue to save her life. The characters are given these cumbersome sentences and turns of phrase that are completely unnatural, and it got in the way of my connection to the characters. I could accept many of the things that Juno and the others chose to do or not do, but it's really a positive reflection of the actors that they were able to do as much as they were with so little. There were a couple of clever plot twists and amusing lines, but overall, I was disappointed.
The soundtrack wasn't much better, either. The song played over the opening credits made me want to claw my own face off. The one from the end of the movie is like 90s-era mixtape fodder that would meet my fast-forward button.
3. Superbad, on the other hand, was made of win and awesome and is entirely worth seeing, if you haven't seen it already. It was smarter and sweeter than I was expecting it to be, and extremely quotable. I felt like I knew those guys.
4. I am reading Love is a Mix Tape by Rob Sheffield, and it's great. I am reminded of all the spectacular mix tapes from years gone by. I should dig some out to listen to this weekend. (
whtegrlwthehair, I can't reccomend this book enough. Especially since you were the author of many of the very best mixes in my collection!)
5. "Hey Ya" is still awesome, and it still makes me both happy and in the mood to dance every time I hear it. Lend me some sugar! I am your neighbor!
