Sharon's Infinite Vacation
Mar. 15th, 2009 07:29 pmYesterday's birthday celebration extravaganza was everything I hoped it would/could be. A great bar, a great collection of people, and good times all around. I hope everyone who attended has as much fun as I did!
j_bkl dragged my drunk ass home at the end rather quickly, and I woke up this morning with what I'm sure Stephen Fry would describe as a truly spectacular hangover. But after some aspirin and some banana bread and some Friday Night Lights, I managed to recover enough so that J and I could check out the NYC Transit museum, which was a lot of fun. After that we walked around for awhile, hit up Sweet Melissa's for some truly spectacular pie, and had a nice walk up Atlantic Avenue to the train. All in all, a lovely day. And we both decided that tonight should be a pizza night, so that's also exciting. It's a great Piemas (observed).
Before the party yesterday, I relaxed like it was my job. I watched Bones, I watched Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist again, and I took a Lush-filled bath. All lovely (would have been even lovelier if I hadn't had problems draining the tub, but now I know how to do it properly, so that won't happen again. I hope.)
I've also been adding tons of music to my ipod - J got me the new Franz Ferdinand for my bday, so that went on there, along with the Girl Talk cd
reppep got me (thanks!!). I also added the Nick & Nora soundtrack, and after listening to that in the bath, I decided to get the Submarines' album off of Emusic. (
katiebea gifted me with an Itunes card, but I'm saving that for stuff emusic doesn't have, like shows on the teevee and such). The Nick and Nora soundtrack is basically a really, really good mixtape - I'm discovering some new bands off of it that I hadn't really given much of a listen to but had heard of, like We Are Scientists and Bishop Allen (can't decide between their new album [Grr]and their older one [Broken String]. Suggestions?) It's also turned me on to some new bands I hadn't heard of, like Takka Takka. I'm probably going to be getting a bunch of new stuff thanks to that album. Also, thanks to a Twitter dedication, I'm now listening to the Eels' Beautiful Freak, which is great.
I'd be lying if I said I was even a little bit happy about going back to work tomorrow. But I am happy to say that this week was EXACTLY what I needed. I had some great time to wander and clear my head and just have some me time. Thursday I took in a bunch of free exhibits (4 galleries and the Museum at FIT) and wandered from West 4th to West 50th, and it was one of those "do whatever you damn well please" days I haven't had in forever. I had lunch with Carly and wandered the Met, J took me out to a great lunch, I wandered DUMBO in the rain, I went to a fancy dress party with fancy cocktails that was fantastic.
airspaniel and I had lunch at the fantastic Mexican joint in our neighborhood, and I did some shopping at Macy's. The whole week was as delicious as the macarons I had at Bouchon Bakery on Thursday.
Just lots of feel-good moments (and a few cathartic ones) that I really needed to get my head back on straight. (Which is good, because according to New Orleans Girl, Boss L is warpathing. Yay.) But I'm not going to worry about that until tomorrow. Tonight is pizza and time with J and Big Love and all good things.
