Day in the life of
Jun. 29th, 2010 10:16 pmI forgot my blackberry today. /o\ It sucked, to put it mildly. No email, no twitter, no texting.
So, out of pure desperation, I started noting down thoughts in a notebook. This is a recap, along with the time of thought, starting with the moment I realized (while on the train) that I was phoneless.
8:20: Have forgotten phone. Am cut off from the world. ACK!!
8:25: Due to a "smoke condition" at Broadway-Lafayette, B trains are running over the Q line. Fucking splendid.
8:30: Assuming trains are, in fact, running. Which mine is not.
8:32: Ms. Manners apparently hates wedding registries. I do not get it. I think of them as a helpful guide, not a must-purchase requirement. Jeez.
8:35: For all the bitching, I don't get what the big deal is about bringing multiple books. At all. It's called a tote bag!
8:40: I'm going to be late anyway, and the idea of escaping at Canal for bao is tempting as hell. Will probably opt for yogurt, as Chinatown in a heat wave represents smells I am reluctant to experience.
9:20: Pret makes a good breakfast sandwich.
9:33: I keep reaching for my phone. Wherefore art thou, phantom limb?
9:35: Not phantom - my knees. I think they quite literally screamed when I walked up the stairs at the 57th street Q station today. And still are.
9:41: Forgot to mention that I was sprayed by some kind of liquid as I was walking to work. Probably from a roof. Ick. Felt like a rain drizzle, but was not. So irresponsible - and disgusting!
10:52: Dear Tuesday: Please die.
11:15: Just had a surprisingly pleasant (but not illuminating) conversation about Huge. Something continues to bug me about the show but can't put finger on what. Have also been encouraged to watch Pretty Little Liars.
11:40: Still thinking about how much I agree with Slate article from this morning about plus ones at weddings. I was single for a long time, and going to a big formal affair with dancing alone can be daunting. I can't imagine not extending plus ones to single guests.
11:57: It never fails. I renew a book, thinking I won't get it back to the library by the due date, and lo, I finish.
12:20: PT Time!
1:20: OW OW MOTHER OW. ><
2:26: I want a burger. And I'm a sad panda: I'm stuck here late because of my stupid commute. So unfair. I wonder if the new shake shack is open yet?
2:27: ZOMG! Long-time LJ friend
firynze will be visiting this weekend! Good times are sure to abound! (I have never actually met her in person, so I am thrilled).
2:28: So help me, if I get this cold going around the office, I will kill something.
3:07: Knees continue to hurt, so I'm availing myself of the community ice pack. It smells like pickles.
3:08: Don't want to cook. Too hot. Not sure I want to pay for food, either. Dilemma dilemma. Burger lust is morphing into sushi jones.
3:19: Sometimes I wish I could take proper Aleve or Ibuprofen
3:25: I really want to make a bon voyage/birthday mix for
redstapler, but I fear we'll both bawl at the track list.
4:04: Down for emergency maintenance = someone having a worse day than I am.
4:05: Do I really want sushi?
4:06: I'd really like to see Bernadette Peters and Elaine Strich in A Little Night Music. Any takers?
4:48: Nearly went Office Space on the non-functional copier, and the Library of Congress site is down. Universe, what are you saying?!
5:00: I am seriously contemplating ice cream for dinner.
5:30: If it wasn't for that stupid track fire, I could leave now. But nooo.
5:45: Halal street cart lamb over rice sounds amazing. If it's not too hot to sit out side, I'm going to hit up the guys on 53rd. (It wasn't, and I did!)
And that's my day. Phone and I are reunited at last, and I'm about to go and make a salad to bring for lunch tomorrow. Aren't you jealous of the thrilling life I lead?
