Requiem for a Train Line

Tonight will be my last ride on the Q express. *sob* They're doing away with it to make room for the B, which I have no problem with in theory. However, I don't seem to understand the mta's "logic" this time around, apparently people on the Q line have no desire to go up 6th avenue late nights or weekends. *rolls eyes* Yes, I *know* I can transfer to the D at Pacific Street, but that's annoying.
Still, the Q express. We've had some fun, haven't we? Sailing along together, thumbing our noses at the local stops along the way. Most days I'd find you waiting for me at 57th street, doors open, shiny grey seats beckoning me to take the long ride with you all the way home. We would pass an uninterested glance at your less-efficient sibling, the Q local (even though I'd have to depend on it when you weren't around). Sometimes you'd run local unexpectedly and piss me off royally. Other times you'd stop without reason (even though I didn't mind that much if we were on the Manhattan Bridge). Now you're leaving me for good, with only the memories to remind me of you. The MTA has torn us apart - they couldn't give us a Q local AND a Q express, as well as the B local and a B express. No, those selfish bastards couldn't be bothered to do anything useful, and now you and I must part.
I'll miss you, and think of you when I ride the local from 57th street home (a seat's a seat, and I'll be damned if I'm giving that up) or maybe even this new express train to work. We'll see. Until then, here's looking at you, Q.

Plus (selfishly) I'm excited about the change, as it brings me in to Grand Street, old home station. Which makes it a straight shot from my parents' place to my place.

Date: 2004-02-20 06:57 am (UTC)Yeah, that's true...even though the B doesn't run nights or weekends, so you'd have to change at Atlantic for the D - but you're right, that's still easier for you than the current setup.
b-b-but they're taking my train away!! *wails*

Date: 2004-02-20 06:59 am (UTC)Oh, Q express.
My biggest fear is that they will reassign my favorite conductor, the one I get every morning - "Good morning ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the Q train. Our next stop iiiiiiis Atlaaaaaaaaaaaaantic Aaaaaaaaaaavenue. Change here for the 2! 3! 4! 5! The M! N! R! The W train! And the Looooooong Iiiiiiiisland Raaaailroad."

Date: 2004-02-20 07:07 am (UTC)All east-siders will be stuck on the local. *sigh*
I hope they don't reassign him either!! The Brooklyn stops will be the same, just the Manhattan ones are changing.
