offbalance: (Lost in Translation)

So much to tell!   This weekend was a giant blur, highlighted by parties, time spent with friends, finding out that the pizza at Tomato & Basil really is as good as I've heard, and walking a LOT.  A genuine lot.   I'm going to have to do that more often, even with the oncoming winter.    I also helped [livejournal.com profile] unsimilar break his curse and finally see The Departed on Sunday evening.   I adored it and I recommend it to all.   This week is a good week for movies, a lot of things are opening that I want to see, particularly Marie Antoinette (even if I have to see it myself), The Queen (which I'll be taking my mom to see at some point), and most importantly, The Prestige, which I know I'll be seeing very soon, most likely with [livejournal.com profile] alcestis, and maybe others as well.   They'll become quite accustomed to my face at the Cobble Hill Cinema, they will.

I updated Typewritten Teacup, finally.

Heroes was awesome last night, and thanks to some prodding friends, I've started watching (and enjoying) How I Met Your Mother.    90% of this enjoyment is directly caused by Neil Patrick Harris, who made me laugh out loud several times last night.   The show is nothing new, but it will provide me with some low-key entertainment on the ipod for the time being.   Something not too heavy that I can watch on my way out for the evening when I didn't feel like bringing a book with me.   (Or couldn't fit one in my bag).

And now, here it is, today's sign of the apocalypse, courtesy of imdb.com:

Johansson Signs Record Deal

Lost In Translation star Scarlett Johansson has signed a deal to make her first record, Scarlett Sings Tom Waits, according to media reports in the US. The album is being recorded at the moment and sessions will continue through the winter, with a possible release next spring from Rhino Records' currently re-activated Atco label. According to Fox News, the 21-year-old is recording a whole album of songs by premier singer/songwriter Waits. Sources says the eventual release date will be coordinated to coincide with Johansson's movie schedule.

The piano has not only been drinking, it's clearly lost its damn mind.

I really should update more often.   Oh well.

"There's nothing girly about a horse and there's nothing girly about a horn. Put them together, and you have a unicorn." <--- An almost direct quote from last night. I adore "How I Met Your Mother" and NPH is totally my boyfriend. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Cause I like it when people like what I like.

Say hi to the Cobble Hill Cinema for me.

That was one of my favorite lines from last night, too. The show is so silly I find it enjoyable, and I'm happy as hell to see Alyson Hannigan doing well. The show reminds me a bit of Coupling, in spots, another favorite of mine.

I will say hello! I'm sure it misses you! Do you know that Tea Lounge now has a branch across the street from it, and Sweet Melissa just opened a location on 7th avenue & 3rd street! It's a world gone mad! Dogs and Cats living together! Mass hysteria!

Sadly you have not the correct genitalia to have NPH as your boyfriend (my brother met NPH this summer when he was visiting his bf who was in a show at the theatre company where my brother was working).

I totally understand and echo the sentiment though.

Drink. It'll help.

I never ask what next anymore. It's how stuff like this winds up happening.

Rum, the cure all for WTF-itis.

Yeah I stopped asking what was next when I was in my 20's, the stuff still makes my brain bleed though.

You use ABBA icons. Which makes you pretty unspeakably awesome.

Why thank you! I made the icon myself, as I am a big fan.

OK wait ... Scarlett Johansson sings? WHATWHATWHAT? Christ I know I've been MIA for a while but wtf? You know this is just a trainwreck waiting to happen. The only reason something like this will sound good is because of synthesizers etc like Paris Hilton's whole album. *sigh* clearly the world has run out of original talent if life has come to this. I'm completely disgusted and horribly amazed by this news right now.
