Well, some documents are just too big for a staple (as was recently demonstrated by the 20-page zoning regulations I have that are falling apart. And I won't even try to staple the 40-odd pagee Board of Ed adgenda I got yesterday). Plus, if you have to make photocopies, removing the staple is a big pain in the ass, especially when you can't find that damn claw remover thing.
However, I agree that paperclips suck. Therefore, I have always been a huge devotee of the binder clip.
In fact, a newspaper recruiter once said someone who sent in their resume and clips put together with a binder clip, as opposed to some fancy folder thing, would always earn his respect.
