Recently, as I've been making my computer ready to receive the glory that is my new ipod, I've been thinking a lot about backups and external hard drives. redesigner has recommended some to me (specifically this one) but I wanted to open it up to the rest of the class, so I can make an informed decision about my search.

Woohoo! I love being research girl! And it's only fair, as I always read your political posts with great interests, as you tend to do exhaustive research and write well-balanced commentary. I may not always agree, but I can't deny the work that went into it. And I usually learn something! :)

When I was out of hard drive space, I just bought a second INternal hard drive, because it was way cheaper. I installed it myself, though Kip said he can make it run better somehow when he gets around to futzing with it.

Of course, that's not an option for those with laptops...

I've heard good things about Tiger Direct & NewEgg. And I order electronics for my office with Best Buy and they've never given me a problem (though they are not always the cheapest - price is not always an issue for my searches.)

Speaking as the IT guy at my company for the past 8+ years and plenty before that, I'll tell you that the only external HDs I trust are G-Raids.
