DO YOU BELONG IN NYC?
Absolutely.

You would never dream of moving anywhere else, and we've insulted you by even suggesting you might leave. You love every single thing about this town, right down to its adorable water-bug infestation. Click here for suggestions about how to really enjoy NYC.

Do you belong in New York City?

It's true -when you grow up in the city, everywhere else is pretty much theoretical (or met with derisive snorts), and everyone else is, in some way, kidding.

No, really. When [livejournal.com profile] blergeatkitty first told me she was from Montana, I was totally blown away. I believe my first reaction was, "People live there?" (And in an impressed, omg-how-cool way, not a disgusted, Staten Island kind of way) . I may have pictured horses and cowboys and dusty fronteir towns with swinging-door-saloons. Maybe.

To get back to the point, of course I belong here. I've had the way people live when not in New York explained to me many times and many other people like it (good for them!), but I still have problems wrapping my head around the notion. True story. This is real life, for me. I'm not sure about anywhere else. (And please don't make me find out. *clings*)

Horses? Yes. (only outside the city limits though.) Cowboys? Hells yes, unfortunately. Dusty frontier towns? I think I'm actually from one. Swinging saloon doors? Only ironically and usually only on bathrooms.

As I mentioned on FB, this quiz said to me that I was too odd to fit in anywhere else and that I only stayed in New York because there was no better option. Pthbbt.

You're too odd, or the rest of the country is too boring? Just asking...

I got that result as well, and felt tremendously guilty because I am trying to leave.

I also felt like the questions didn't take natives into account.

I definitely felt that, too. There should have been a question that said: "true or false: I grew up in 'the city' means the five boroughs only, and you had to attend school here for at least 5 or more grades." Or something. That counts a lot more.

Wow. Nothing like getting a coffee cup that says "Get the Hell Out" first thing in the morning. 0_o

104: "Yes, but sometimes you wish there were a better option.
You do love New York, and you fit in here better than you have anywhere else. You're committed to the city, and you take advantage of all of its amazing food, culture, nightlife and arts. But you have nagging doubts about this relationship. Spend your whole life here? Not sure about that. Sometimes you wonder about that farm in your fantasies or even just a smaller city. But in reality, you know there's nowhere better."

Most of this is dead-on. I'm not sure about "nowhere better." (I know that you're getting ready to shoot me for writing that!") However; I have lived here for 9.5 years - that's gotta count for something. ;)

I think better is subjective. There are some people out there who honestly don't belong here, and better for them is somewhere else.
