Sunday Sundries

- Today is my last day of vacation. I go back to work tomorrow. Booo.
+ My vacation was awesome, though. Desperately needed, and it was nice to be off the same time as
j_bkl, it allowed for more sleeping later and better planning for more fun stuff to do. And for us to spend lots of nice time together.
+ The Bronx Zoo. J and I met up with
blergeatkitty on Thursday and we took a look around the place. Aside from a run-in with four bratty little kids who are the best argument I've seen recently for being childfree, it was a near-perfect day. I learned that Sea Lions and Monkeys are total attention whores. Mostly, I was impressed by the immersive habitats that the zoo creates (minus putting predators in with their prey). But it was cool to see birds and monkeys and the occasional other animal all in the same place. Mostly, I liked watching the animals watch the people on the other side of the glass - like they were as amused by seeing us as the other way around.
+ This video of Tim Dekay and Matt Bomer (of White Collar) at Comic Con. They are playing some latter-day Wii version of Dance Dance Revolution. Tim (who plays FBI Agent Peter Burke on the show) has some serious moves. He plays a bit of a stuffed shirt on the show, so maybe that's why it was surprising. Matt Bomer (who plays Neal Caffrey) seemed a bit restrained/embarrassed by the whole thing, or maybe he's not much of a dancer. But watch. Omg.
+ MAD MEN IS BACK TONIGHT! \o/
- I figured out what is wrong with Memphis Beat, finally. The show itself is decent, but Jason Lee is so egregiously miscast it throws the whole mood off.
For me, Jason Lee is at his best when he's this:

or this:

I'm not buying him as this:

I don't get why they cast Mr. California Skateboard Dude as a Memphis lifer and musician/cop. It doesn't fit him at all. I don't believe it.
However, it's not to say they needed a real southerner for the part. I can think of one California man that would have been perfect in this part.

And they wouldn't have to awkwardly dub in someone else's voice, either. I'd just tune in every week to see Chris Isaak sing a little. Instead of cringing whenever Jason Lee is pretending to.
- This heat is getting old. WTF.
+ I got to spend time with a lot of friends this week, which made me very happy.
+ See The Kids Are All Right if you get a chance. It's messy in all the right ways, not to mention funny. I loved how there were no easy questions or answers.
That's all I can think of for now. J and I have a big bday dinner for his whole family tonight (all are July bdays), so I have a bunch of presents I need to wrap!
