The connection here is slow, so i only did some superficial poking around, but free Shakespeare w/ Julia Stiles looks really appealling, what with the free and the Julia Stiles, not to mention that it's "Twelfth Night," which i had a bit part in in high school, so i'm a little attached to it.
I have no idea. Where'd you read the ones you did see?
Twelfth night is a nearly impossible play to do perfectly b/c of the character problems (identical twins?!). In some regard, that play strikes me as something that really should have been a novel, probably.
But oh well.
(Laura says that the Ben Kingsley movie version is the best ever)
Well yes there is the problem of identical twins, but when we did it at my high school we just expected the audience to suspend disbelief -- though we did a good job of making them look similar.
I never pay anyone on sites like that any mind. Some people are just so endlessly cranky and hard to please that if the entire night revolved around pleasing them, they'd still complain.
we saw a production at albany where Viola was played by an African-american actress, and Sebastian was played by a blonde white actor. And it was terrific. So go fig.

Wow, impressive. Someone at my grandma's book club was saying she saw an Othello with Patrick Stewart as Othello, and all the other characters were black actors/actresses. I would have loved to have seen that. Yeah, not really related, but that's okay.
you and Laura both...she has this thing about the play, and for many years on AIM went by Viola. (no longer tho).
we could do it, but it's a more than all-day thing. You have to wait on line to get tickets to get in, then if you get them I believe it's general admission, so you'd have to show up early.
I'd love to do it too, but do take into consideration what else you'd like to do, and we'll figure something out.
You remembered
She can be taught!

She can also be overwhelmed.

Date: 2002-07-10 10:09 am (UTC)I saw the poor reviews the same place i found:

I'm weirded out by the fact that one reviewer gave it a 10 and the other gave it a 1. Sigh.
