adventures in commerce

Reading the September issue of Elle led me to some important discoveries, and much squeeing.
1. Banana Yoshimoto has a new book coming out, called Goodbye Tsugumi (Grove Press). It sounds like your typical Banana story, but that's what I love about her. She usually presents variations on similar themes, and this one seems closer to Kitchen or even NP (my favorite) than some of her more recent books.
2. Jeffrey Eugenides ALSO has a new book coming out (Farrar Straus & Giroux). It's called Middlesex, and tells the sweeping story of a hermaphrodite, from ancestors to present self-realization. I'm just so excited that he's written something new, since I loved Virgin Suicides so much. I'm not completely sure about the topic, but it got a good review here and if reading Francesca Lia Block has taught me anything, it's to not judge a book by its blurb.
3. And this is exclusively for
antheia. Agent Provacateur is opening a store in Soho. AND they're releasing a line of shoes, which will be sold there along with the prohibitively expensive (not to mention sexy and goregous) lingere.
