offbalance: (Garden State by sensibility)

I had a good weekend.

It started with a good Friday, that also happened to be Good Friday. I got out of work early (always a plus), then relaxed at home for a bit before meeting [livejournal.com profile] whtegrlwthehair at Market Cafe for a marvelous meal. Catherine was positively ravenous, and spoke of having steak in such loving, passionate terms that I, too, opted for one. Then, despite the pouring rain, we made our way to the Hammerstein Ballroom for the Death Cab for Cutie/Franz Ferdinand show.

I wasn't all that thrilled by Death Cab live. Granted, I was in a bad position, sonically (we were too close to the speakers, and despite the earplugs, the sound was distorted and the vibrations downright painful), but when the most exciting part of a show is the band's set design, you have to wonder. True, they had a lovely set - little houses on either side of the stage and giant fake plastic trees as a backdrop - but I found them lacking, and myself bored.

Then there was Franz. I've been to many concerts in my time, but I've seen few bands with as much enthusiasm or stage presence. They were goregous, hard-rocking, and incredible. Blew my doors off, for sure. I jumped and screamed and sang and danced and left feeling exhilarated. Like the White Stripes, they are another band I couldn't fully appreciate before I saw them live. I liked them, even really liked them on cd, but it wasn't until I saw them live that I really GOT what all the fuss is about.

I then fell asleep on the train home. It was the beginning of a weekend FILLED with OFFSS.

Saturday we cleaned the living hell out of the living room. It's positively sparkling right now. We also got our free ham on saturday (rah rah grocery promotions), so Puck roasted it and we invited the parents over to enjoy it. They brought wine and dessert. Between the cleaning and the wine, I just about passed out after watching the absolute heartbreaker of an ending to the Yankee game.

Today, after spending a fantabulous afternoon in the park with [livejournal.com profile] leopard_lady, I headed home, and again, flopped down on my bed to see how the Yanks were doing. An inning later, my own snoring woke me up. And did I mention this was an afternoon game? Jeez.

It's now extremely very late, and I should have been asleep two hours ago. But I have to dry my hair and get sleepy.

I saw Elizabethtown, today, finally. And you know what? I liked it. Even really liked it. Granted, I thought that Garden State covered a lot of the same ground and better, but there were things about this that I thought were quite winning. I would have loved to have seen the original 3-hour version that premiered at the film festival that was thought to be a total disaster. (Now, I doubt it, or anything for that matter, could be as bad as Vanilla Sky, but I digress). The film was flawed, but fun, and you could do worse with it as a Netflix or On Demand selection.

And now, bed.
