It was a very happy thanksgiving indeed. I got to spend it with my immediate family only, which was a welcome break for all of us. Lots of food, and lots of raves for my famous sweet potato and marshmellow pie. :) It was a pretty mellow day, I was basically exhausted from last night's concert and from working all week, and my parents have been very concerned about how tired they say I've been looking. To be honest, I was basically exhausted and out of sorts all day - lots of food helped somewhat, but I still feel dishraggy.
The bloodshed present came twofold: first and foremost in the guise of the Buffy Skewer's Choice Marathon on F/X (yay!) . The other nice part about being just us for the holidays is that we could enjoy the Buffy overload without getting crosseyed looks from relatives. Then I cut myself on a measuring cup that I didn't know was chipped when I was washing the dishes, in the valley between my thumb and forefinger, which bled a lot and still hurts like a bitch.
And oh, the Gusterness of last night! And seeing DAVID BAUMFLECK while on line to get in! *gigglefit* I've come to the conclusion that seeing people you knew but weren't particularly friendly with in high school is just like encountering a celebrity: it's fun to look and say you saw them, but there's no reason to actually talk to them.
Wonderful wonderful! They played lots of new stuff, including "Ramona" which you can download from their site. I really am liking it, it's just that it's so hard to know what to do at a show when you don't know the song. I just sort of bounced in place - we were packed in like sardines hell-bent on busting all fire laws - with a bunch of nice people from Conneticut that had come down for the show and smoked so much I got a contact buzz. XD. They also played quite a few songs from Parachute, which I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I'm not as familiar with as I should be, as I don't own it. *ducks* But I will! I swear! They brought their entire families, and gave them shoutouts mid-show. I kept looking up at Brian's mom, and she was drumming along with her son, and beaming with pride. So cute! Plus, they tried to get some random person up out of the crowd to try to sing karaoke to Wicked Game, which SUCKED! (nevernevereverdothatagainok?) But they also promised to be touring much more when the new album FINALLY comes out. They had a great stage setup, lots of lighting features, including a black backdrop that has lots of tiny little lights in it that can look like a starry sky, which was awesome (and used well). And, nice to see that the countdown that occurs during the chorus of "Barrel of a Gun" is becoming a thing. :) And, I got a $5 shirt that says "Me Gusta Guster!" on it! (along with their tourdates from this past summer.)
Highlights:
Barrel of a Gun
Ramona/What you wish for
Two Points for Honesty/Where the Streets have no name
some new songs I didn't know
old songs I didn't know.
Brian totally going apeshit during the drum solo for Airport Song. *swoon*
Brian singing a karaoke version of Kiss Me, and me learning that I can actually listen to the song again without thinking of he-who-must-not-be-mentioned. Oh, and Thundergod: Stay behind your drums, honey. Kay?
The Families of Guster
Seeing a guy I knew in High school.
the cool stoners from CT.
Singing the parts of songs played on other instruments that they didn't have.
But they rushed Fa Fa, didn't play rocketship, and nothing will top the Central Park show for me, which was just beyond amazing. However: I have yet to see Guster play a show that was less than incredible, including the times when they were just a brief opening act. :D
