Even though I wholly endorse and approve of everything covered in this post, it embedded Glen Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy" so deeply into my skull that I'm attempting to listen to it repetitively in order to cure myself. Not sure if that's going to solve the problem or make it worse, but at least it's a cure I can enjoy. (Note to self, borrow M&D's greatest hits later. All I have is this song and an R.E.M. cover of "Gentle on My Mind." ) But Blerg and I agree that Mr. Campbell is due for A Moment, much like Rick Astley, Neil Diamond and Michael McDonald before him. Which will be great for him, and shitty for us, because we liked him before he was cool for the second time.

Last weekend was so full of win I wanted to bottle it and sell it in stores. It started on Thursday when J and I had dinner with friends (something we need to make a habit of). Friday my beach plans were rained out, but that night J and I decided to see (500) Days of Summer instead. While far from the greatest film achievement of all time, it was (as I said on Twitter), a cupcake of cinema, and a well-made cupcake at that. Sweet without being overly cloying, fluffy (but with enough subtance to hold it together and make it pleasantly chewy), and some pretty icing and sprinkles on top. Yum. On a purely visual level, the film was lovely - they either used kodachrome or a digital filter to make it look like it was, and I really loved Zoe Deschanel's clothing and whomever did the set decoration/design. I loved the random dance number. I mostly enjoyed how it took a fairly mundane story and played around with it some. I didn't mind the ending as much as others, though. It was something I enjoyed watching and it would be something I'd enjoy watching again. Which is more than I can say for some of the films I've seen recently (I'm looking at you, Margot at the Wedding.)

Saturday we had a birthday party for one of [livejournal.com profile] j_bkl's friends at Ginger's (a great bar in Park Slope), after which I convinced him to go to Prospect Park for the free Celebrate Brooklyn show with Dean & Britta. (Speaking again of things that are just itching to make a comeback, Britta was the original voice of Jem. Talk about synergy! [oh, get over it. I can pun if I want to.]) Sunday we'd hoped to go to the Cloisters with friends, but headed to the New Museum instead. The museum was okay, the food we had at Congee Bowery after was spectacular (as was the company). We finished out the day after the rain came out in a park on Bayard Street, playing Chinese Chess (with the help of just about any old Asian man that happened to walk by.) And, as if you thought the end of the weekend would be enough to stop the fun and crazy times, we met up with two more friends in Central Park to see a free Bela Fleck show at Summerstage. J's friend had a crazy hookup that allowed us to sit in a fancy area with chairs, free drinks, and people who wouldn't let you in unless you had a particularly-colored wristband. It was awesome.

Tonight I get to find out once and for just how allergic I am to shellfish, after which I can take antihistamine again, thus ending the itching of the 2 dozen or so (no exaggeration, I counted!) bug bites I have. And to see if he thinks I have a sinus infection, which I am concerned I might. *sigh* And this weekend I have birthday parties, visits and dinners with friends, and if I'm super-duper lucky, laundry. Friday I'm taking my mom to see Julie & Julia, because we both want to see it. And tomorrow, just to bring this all full circle, [livejournal.com profile] blergeatkitty and I are seeing a group that could very well be the Next Big Meme. So I'm not going to tell you who it is. But if you use your private eyes, you might figure it out.
