further adventures in publishing
Nov. 18th, 2002 12:04 pmwell, here I am, back at HC. And what a difference a change in building and department can make! Everyone here in International Sales is superduper nice, and not in that cloying, phony way. They've given me *actual* work to do, have not minded me coming to them with questions at all, and have been falling over themselves to make sure I am settled in and comfortable. (on the tour, I was shown the galley shelves and told to help myself. that's like taking an addict to a crackhouse and saying the same, but I digress.) Plus, I've been introduced around, and not treated like a leper. (Children's Editorial should take notes! sheesh!)
In better news, this computer I'm on has the full suite of MS Office. And guess what, kids? Powerpoint has a tutorial! One that I will be playing with, most certainly, and will hopefully familiarize me with the software enough to fake it. Now, if Access has the same thing, I'm all set.
It has something for access, but I'm not quite sure what to make of it. It may actually require some real thought, unlike powerpoint, the easiest.program.ever! Geez! Heh. Next time my agent calls, I can say, "Yes, as a matter of fact, I *can* do powerpoint!"
*sigh* I'm the last one, apparently. Everyone else roughly my age of my acquaintance is now gainfully employed full time, except for moi.
"I am the only unicorn there is? The last? There has never been a time without unicorns. We live forever! We are as old as the sky, old as the moon! We can be hunted, trapped; we can even be killed if we leave our forests, but we do not *vanish*. Am I truly the last?"
[and incidentally, the remake of the film refrenced above is now slated for Christmas 2004. I will be casting an incredibly critical eye, to make sure it's been done properly. At the time of its release, my dearly beloved animated version will probably look the same as the old, animated LOTR does when compared to the new one.]
