under the white stuff
Feb. 18th, 2003 02:32 pmOkay, I haven't posted in a few days, despite being home with nothing to do. Haven't felt like it, really.
Went to Webster Hall on friday. Wild place - it looks like the sort of hall that the Addams family would have a wedding reception. No really interesting guys to speak of; mostly skeezy 35-40 year olds trying to hit on 20-somethings in really creepy ways (like the skanky guy that kept pawing at my friend Theresa' friend Tammy's face. Hello? Is that supposed to be considered attractive? Stay in your own pool, you skeezy old man!) It was okay - but got a little hairy after awhile, including enormous crowds of people who should not be wearing spandex that were. Then there was a 120 pound blonde girl picking fights with anyone with a foreign accent, because she was VERY drunk and obnoxious - it took 5 bouncers and 2 cops to haul her bony ass out of there.
Blah. Otherwise, I suppose it was fun. However, I could have lived without paying $9 a drink!!!!
Saturday I did glorious amounts of nothing - I rented a few movies I've been wanting to see (some again, some for the first time): Possession(which was an insult to the book it was based on!), My Big Fat Greek Wedding & Sweet Home Alabama (still good the second time), and About a Boy which I found to be charming and a fair adaptation of the book's spirit. YES they changed some of the plot/musical references around, but they had too. Most 12 year olds have NO idea who Kurt Cobain is, sad to say. I adored the kid who played Marcus, and thought it was well cast and well adapted (though High Fidelity was definitely done better).
Sunday I hung out with Jeff and we watched Donnie Darko. His first time, my second. We're now both pretty obsessed with the film - we spent hours talking about it afterwards and going through the special features. And I'm not sure either of us will be able to say or hear the words chocolate sprinkled donut without cracking up for quite some time. I had to leave in a hurry, though, as the snow started and I had to leave before getting snowbound.
Monday - trapped inside due to TOO FUCKING MUCH SNOW. Ugh. I did watch Sense and Sensibility though, as
suckeriove has been on about Alan Rickman for weeks, and her lovely new S&S icon had placed the film firmly in my subconscious.
My train wasn't running this morning, neither were many of the buses around here, so I called off work like a loser and spent the morning helping my mom dig. I have been shoveling for what feels like years. Arms aching, I pulled a muscle in my shoulders and have had it with the damn snow.
I am going crazy from being in the house all this time, and I really want to go back to work tomorrow. Thankfully, there is a new Buffy on tonight.
That's it, I'm fucking moving to Hawaii. *sigh*
