Same weekend, with half the energy!
Mar. 20th, 2004 05:22 pmSo, I am sick. I feel like utter crap, intermixed with periods of feeling not too awful. *sigh* I'm still going to Evan's party, though. I'm on antibiotics so I can't drink, and I'm only semi-coherent, but I'm still going damnit!!
Have I mentioned how bloody sick I am of being sick? Apparently I am the hottest spot in the germ world, only not as difficult to get into as some other hotspots. (If I was more aware of the club scene, I could make a really cool joke right here. oh well.) Nope, my bouncers are not that discriminating, apparently. Although they've managed to keep bronchitis and pneumonia out this winter, they've let in every cold/sore throat that they've laid eyes on. They're FIRED. *sigh*
So, last night was Great Big Sea's sold-out Irving Plaza show. They were excellent!! Seriously fun, upbeat stuff. If I'd have to describe their music through comparison, they felt to me like the Barenaked Ladies meet Black 47, with a double shot of the Pogues thrown in the mix. I only wish I was feeling better, so I could have managed to dance a bit more (and next time I go to one of their shows, I will have NO bag to weigh me down. Oh no). Lots of people were dancing and singing - I'm surprised the whole place didn't fall in the way the floor was shaking! It was excellent. Total party atmosphere. The Push Stars opened, and they were also pretty good, even though
quasisonic and I sort of felt at a few points like we were either at the Bronze, on Dawson's Creek, or at the bar from Felicity that I can't remember the name of. Still, I liked their song "Loser's Day Parade" a lot, and the songs the lead singer came out to do with GBS, including one from There's Something About Mary called "Shine."
Last night I also got to meet
trebleahead in person, which was very cool. :) I kept knocking into him and his friend Jason while I was trying to dance (wish I could blame that on illness, but I'm really just a spaz) but it was very cool, and I hope you guys got home earlier than you were expecting to (a 3:30 am arrival time for a train is rough!)
I'd better get ready now. I think a shower will improve lots of how I feel right now. And shit! It's late!
