This morning began with an eye pimple, and continued with the commute from hell, but at least managed to improve from there.

I'll spare you the details on the eye issues, but suffice it to say that I don't think I'll be wearing my contacts to the taping of The Graham Norton Effect that I'll be attending tonight. This does not make me happy. *sigh* [livejournal.com profile] quasisonic insists that my glasses are adorable (at least after she stopped screaming in abject terror about the reason I couldn't wear my contacts) . At least I get to leave at 5 today.

I had flirted with the idea of organizing a happy hour tomorrow night, but I'm far too tired for that, so instead, I'm going to try to find a copy of Brightness Falls from Air by James Tiptree, Jr. (supposedly the BPL has a few) and head home for a night of super relax. However, since I have to work a full day on Friday (ugggh), I was wondering if anyone wanted to get together after work and catch a showing of Garden State. Not sure of exact time or location yet, but will most likely be at Union Square. I'm also distressed about the fact that the director's cut of Donnie Darko may be closing this Thursday. *sigh*

Due to 'signal problems' in the tunnel, the R train had to run over the bridge. Which, for some reason, FUBARed everything, and it wound up taking me an hour and a half to get to work (as opposed to the usual 40 minutes or so). It was aggravating. Had I not had a seat, I would have been livid, as I decided to wear a skirt & heels today. Finally got to work at 5 to 9.

Been managing the intern. She's still sweet and enthusiastic, and didn't even grumble when I sent her off to do some filing. She came back with a question a short time later and the suggestion that everything would be SO much easier to find if we filed by title of book (which changes as often as the weather) rather than the author. Suddenly the actions of one particularly flabbergasting department (notoriously lacking in logic) crystalized in front of me, and I remembered many conversations I've had over the years about book smarts vs. street smarts. If you graduated from Harvard with honors, but can't figure out how to work a can opener (or if a water cooler is full or empty), you're not going to be listed in the 'smart' column in my book.

You wasted $150,000 on an education you coulda got for a buck fifty in late charges at the public library. *shakes head*

Anyway, it's nearly 5 and time to flee. I hope there's a hotdog guy on the corner or something tide me over for a few hours. I'm dying for a burger, but that will have to wait, I guess.
