Guess what, Boss L?

Next year, I'll be going on a nice long vacation during busy season. So you can be the one knee-deep in hell, and I can be somewhere exotic enjoying myself.

April in Paris, anyone? *grunt*

At least I had a wonderful weekend.

Friday was a kick-ass party at Casa Tacocestis. And Harry Fucking Potter. [livejournal.com profile] alcestis also tipped me off to a great wine store on 5th in the high teens. It has a great selection, particularly of large bottles of Australian wine.

Saturday Carly & Tim came in to Brooklyn and we braved the crowds at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Cherry Blossom festival. It was gorgeous. I'd never been to the BBG before, but I will be going back, and often. In typical me fashion, my favorite part of the garden was a gigantic grove of every possible variety of lilac you can think of, and a few I didn't realize existed. It was beautiful to look at, but the smell was even more amazing. And, although we didn't get there on time this past week, on Saturdays the BBG is free from 10-12. I'll definitely be going back to visit the lilacs at least once more before the season is over.

Carly and Tim headed home sort of early, so I called Maya to see if she had any plans. She did, but we decided to have brunch the next day instead. I settled in for the night, and turned on IM. [livejournal.com profile] unsimilar was on, and asked me if I'd had dinner yet. Since I really hadn't, we made spontaneous plans to go to Sette, and I am SO glad we did. We had a wonderful time (as we always do), but the food was absolutely incredible - and probably the best meal I've had since I got back from Vegas. I also loved dashing out of my apartment on a Saturday night for a late dinner - there's something really glamorous about that.

Sunday was the aforementioned brunch with Maya and then I hung out with my parents for the day. I did a little laundry and watched In her Shoes with my mom. Great film, if you get the chance to rent it. It had tons of opportunities to be pat, schmaltzy, or stupid, and it passed nearly every one of them up. (There was one slightly schmaltz moment at the end, but I'll give them that one.) I was totally blown away - let's hope that this is a sign of things to come for movies, and steaming piles of poo in the manner of Just Like Heaven soon become a thing of the past. (Had the same creative team that made In her Shoes been handed Just Like Heaven, I think it would have been a very different film, but I digress.) Very well done.

Yesterday I had the chance to attend a really amazing black tie event at Lincoln Center. But more on that later.
