offbalance: (road trip)
Big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] quodlibetic, [livejournal.com profile] rhinoplastique, and [livejournal.com profile] squiddeh for a lovely evening last night. Unfortunately, I discovered the reason I'd been spending so many nights at home in front of the tv on Fridays is because of my unfortunate condition of getting SO frigging exhausted by the end of the week that one or two beers renders me narcoleptic. Diet Coke helped me rebound once, but around 11:30 I was done. Sad, sad, sad. It's obnoxious how much sleep my body demands sometimes - and I wish I could find a more permanent way to correct that other than actually sleeping.

It was especially annoying, seeing how yesterday was supposed to be a celebration marking my first day of vacation. Today, tomorrow and Monday I'll be at the beach. I have the new Bridget Harrison book, a mountain of magazines, and all sorts of other amusements to keep me busy. Tuesday I'm especially excited about, because on Tuesday [livejournal.com profile] angelicillusion and I are going Malling in New Jersey (oh GLORIOUS shopping!). After that - sky's the limit, but the emphasis will be on the beach.

Speaking of which, the folks are here to pick me up!

offbalance: (alton brown multi-purpose)
I've been enjoying Alton Brown's new show, Feasting on Asphalt. For those with no interest in clicking the link, basically it involves my favorite quirky, geeky, snarky, and smart Food Network personality getting out of his Good Eats studio, and exploring the country with a few friends on touring motorcycles, in pursuit of classic/wonderful road food. Considering that AB started as a documentary filmmaker, this show was a natural idea, and was an ideal fit for his personality and style. They're running a marathon of the first 3 episodes, leading up to the remaining fourth, next Saturday.

So, as I'm enjoying episode 3, I watch with glee as he heads to (what I thought was) Lawrence, Kansas, for a barbeque festival and cake auction. I may have squeed, thinking of how it would be research for fanfic (yes, I have had my brain eaten by the Supernatural fandom, how did you guess?) as well as crossover ideas that involved Alton talking to John Winchester about pie.

Unfortunately, as I look at the site, I see that it was Florence, Kansas, and not Lawrence. Boo. Urns. Never mind. I'll just strap on my trusty tin hat and pretend I was right the first time.

Of course, someone is going to be a smartass and say that Lawrence doesn't actually exist. Sure. Next thing they're going to say that Neptune isn't real either. Pshaw.

Hurrah saturday night spam posts.
