I wish I was at the beach today.
Jul. 10th, 2007 09:13 am1. Happy (now belated, sad to say) Birthday to my favorite scholarly lj'er,
hermionesviolin, who can bring the intelligent, informed debate to the table like few others I know. 'Twas lovely to see her this weekend, and hopefully I will get to see her again while not doing my impression of a whirling dervish atop a perpetual-motion device.
2. I went to the beach Sunday. It was glorious, and we stayed until sunset. I swam several times, but for a portion of the afternoon we hid on the deck of the cabana in the shade, where there was a lovely breeze, the Sunday papers, and the last 150 pages of Summer Knight (Dresden Files Book 4, if you're in the know). Afterwards, mom and I stopped into Nino's, this really amazing pizzeria on Avenue N just off Flatbush. Best in the neighborhood, I think.
3. Saturday was a really long day. Fun, but really, really long. It started when I met up with
lwoodbloo and we headed to Yankee Stadium for the great and glorious Old Timer's Day. I love OT day, and seeing all the people that turn up. I'm still a tiny bit rattled by the fact that Homer Busch, Scott Brosius and Paul O'Neill are now considered Old Timers. (My dad told me that he remembers when Whitey Ford, Yogi Berra, Bobby Mercer and guys a LOT older than Brosius and O'Neill were playing, and in some cases even rookies, so I can stfu.) The OT game was fun, and then the game after that was insane. Clemens pitched 8 innings and only gave up 1 run, and if he'd had more offensive support, we would have won. But still, there was some good fielding (minus Cairo's fumble, but hey, it happens). Hell, even FARNESWORTH didn't fuck up - and if that doesn't make for a lucky day, I don't know what does.
After the game, I headed home, took a desperately needed shower, then headed to the Crocodile Lounge for
antheia,
ginpalace &
leopard_lady's joint birthday bonanza. Have you ever had the experience of knowing more people at a party than you can talk to in depth for any length of time? For the first time in my life, I had that problem on Saturday. It was kind of daunting, and kind of awesome. Sadly, though, the events of the day got the better of me, and started falling asleep around 12:30 in the couch alcove in the back of the bar. (Body? You FAIL!)
Yesterday I got to hang out with
blergeatkitty and meet the famous
alice_ayers, at a pretty sweet Gothamist invite-only happy hour. Free beer, free ice cream, and we met a dude who gave me a free Zagat nightlife guide. I could have lived without getting overheated and nearly passing out in Whole Foods, but it was only nearly, and after getting home, having a cold shower and watching two and a half episodes of Big Love, I was much better. Tired, but better. I just have to catch a repeat of The Bronx is Burning.
And now, to work. Trying to decide if I still want to go to the New York Philharmonic in Prospect Park tonight, or if I still need to go home and collapse after being out in this weather.
