I think it speaks volumes when I'm more interested in finishing a show that's been on my ipod for awhile than I am to see what happened on Ugly Betty or Grey's last night. (Bones and SPN were watched, naturally.)

[livejournal.com profile] j_bkl has gotten me completely hooked on a marvelous show called The Midldeman. I love it. Everything about it. It's hilarious. The characters are complex, but lack too much angst. I've been describing it as The Avengers as done by the creative team behind The Tick, which I think gives you the best possible explanation. It's just perfection, and Wendy Watson (and her roommate Lacey) are some of the best-drawn female characters I've seen on TV in a long time. And then there's Matt Kesslar, who's honestly kind of very yummy - especially as Middleman. One episode involved a Martial Arts master who wore a Lucha Libre mask. Another involved a genetically altered gorilla who tried to take over the world. There are reformed succubi who run a fashion house. I honestly couldn't make up half this stuff. And it's honestly and truly funny. Not eye-rolling-predictably-kind-of-funny - smack you in the face, genuinely funny. It's based (farily closely, from what I've gleaned) from a graphic novel series, and since the creator of that was heavily involved with the show, the humor carries. I won't read the graphic novel until I'm done with the show, though, so I don't know for sure.

But yeah. It's sucked me in. I'm worried it won't get another season, although I do plan to buy the DVDs the minute they are released this summer. I wish I could say I was an early adopter, or that I listened to my boyfriend when he was raving about it all summer. Alas.

Any other Middlefans out there? Or did everyone run screaming at the mention of ABC Family? The material is way better than the channel location might suggest. I'm up to The Vampire Puppet Lamentation, so I still have 2.5 episodes to go. But I can't recommend it enough. If you're looking for something new to watch (it's on Itunes!), check it out.
