I honestly don't know where to begin here. The past few days have been FULL. Absolutely full.

I've decided to start with the fluffiest items, and work my way down to the more substantial.

I was so proud of Carrie for standing up to Miranda like that. I mean, hello - bitter much? I was completely on Carrie's side, it really did seem like Miranda was trying to keep her from changing and moving on and growing up, because then she would have to acknowledge that the world was indeed changing. And if she had just said "I don't want you to go to Paris because I'd miss you not being in the same city," Carrie wouldn't have been so mad. At least she could have TRIED to be happy for her.

Also: they filmed the scenes with Candace Bergen at a restaurant I pass every day on my way to and from the train. Hee!

Was I the only one who felt like the annoying socialite in the manolos falling out of the window was symbolic in some way?

I didn't watch the Grammys. Who gives a crap about some dumb awards show, when the first part of series II of The Forsyte Saga was on?? (Okay, maybe just me and [livejournal.com profile] planetbs, but I.don't.care.)

Well, the sad thing is that the older generation (Joylon, Irene, Winnie, Darty, and of course my boy Soames) is much more interesting than the younger. Even Fleur sort of gets on my nerves, but it's more the fault of the actress. Soames is so layered and interesting, and I'd like to think that she's more calculating and devious and interesting than just an impetuous spoiled brat who acts like she's 7.

Still, there were some golden moments. Mostly having to do with Soames, ESPECIALLY when he told Joylon off:
"I am not pleased about the liason, but at least I can attempt to end it without having my own hypocrisy looming over me."

Ooops. Didn't count on that one, did ya Jo?

I also loved it when he told off Darty:
D: I'm trying to preserve the family name here.
Soames: The only way you could have done that would be to have not married my sister.

And Soames's wife cheating on him with the Badly Accented French Guy! And Fleur knows! And Winnie knows! This is going to hit the fan like nobody's business. Heheheheh.

And Soames still has a hidden picture of Irene. Still! After all of those years stalking her, he still has a picture! Unreal.

(Series 1 is still the best. So far.)

Today I took a walk on my lunch break to the new Time Warner Center. *yawns* It's a Mall, plain and simple. And not even a particularly good mall. The Sephora is itty bitty. The Borders looks okay. There's a large Williams-Sonoma and Whole foods. Otherwise? Dissappointed! :P

Yesterday I had an absolutely lovely brunch at Candela with [livejournal.com profile] drrandom, [livejournal.com profile] thatgirlinred and [livejournal.com profile] quasisonic, after getting my hair done. It was a nice day. Then I came home for dinner and three hours of quality television, including Diane Lane: Inside the Actor's studio, who was not a little bit put off by James Lipton's pandering.

Saturday Jeff and I hung out in Chelsea. I dragged him into Best Buy to look at digital cameras and I think I've decided on one that suits me. I'm probably going to get it at J&R, though, because they have it for a better price. He got himself a copy of Final Fantasy X2, and then bought me a copy of Lost in Translation for my birthday, because I had a decision making disorder as to whether I should buy it for myself. *squeee!* Happy Movieness!

Then we went to see Mystic River. Oh.My.goodness!!

I should have expected that Clint Eastwood would blow me away, as he's a really talented director. I wasn't expecting this dark saga to be so gripping.

I thought Sean Penn overacted the way he always does. I was not impressed by him at all. I was blown away by Marcia Gay Harden and Tim Robbins, who were just brilliant and heartbreaking. Harden's character looked like she was having a breakdown the entire time. Robbins was just broken. You really could tell that he was just broken.

This movie really belonged to Kevin Bacon. Where are his accolades? He was the whole movie! He was the one I really cared about! Laura Linney's monologue at the end blew me out of my seat. Lady MacBeth, much? geeeeeeez. *shudder*
The ending was surprising.

I'm still rooting for Lost in Translation or Return of the King, but if this wins I wouldn't be too upset. Not a happy film, but a good one.

Friday nothing really happened. I watched the pilot of Firefly with my dad, and really didn't do anything noteworthy.

Thursday was a day that felt like a week. One of those weeks where you run around and barely sleep or eat. Things went as smoothly as they could have though, which is good. The Rabbi kept screwing up my dad's Hebrew name (and I think he mispronounced my Grandma's, and I know that somewhere she was rolling her eyes and correcting him). I saw a branch of the extended family I don't usually get to see, and someone tried to set me up with the friend of one of their sons. *sigh* We were all jetlagged by the time we got home. There's no other word for it. It felt 3 hours later than it was.

I did cry, though. On the way to the cemetary my mom offered Lifesavers out of her purse. They turned out to be the same flavor that my grandma used to carry around in hers, and used to give me on car rides when I was little. I burst into tears the minute it hit my tongue. It's weird how these things happen.

So sorry about your Grandma. :( Its never easy losing someone. My great uncle (who was like a grandpa) died this week & it still hasn't really sunk in yet.

Thanks. I'm sorry about your Great Uncle.

Even when it's not a surprise, it's still a shock, you know?

So that was you in Best Buy last Saturday! I was going to say hi, but I wasn't 100% sure if it was you, (I only got a fleeting glance) and I didn't want to risk looking like a weirdo stalker if it wasn't. :)

And I'm sorry about your Gandmother...But rest assured, memories like those lifesavers will turn into good things in time. It'll become comforting.

I was there around 5ish, and I had a bright red coat on, with a long multicolored scarf, and it was this past saturday. And you should have said hi! :) Considering how many times I've seen Phantom!Oz, it would have been nice to see the real thing.

Thanks...and it was comforting in a weird way, just like how crying can be a genuine release sometimes. You know?

You should read the book of Mystic River; it goes deeper into the characters'personalities, especially Jimmy's, and you see a lot more clearly what an evil bastard he really is in the end (rather than an originally good man who's just slipping into evil by the mistakes he's making, which the movie seems to portray him as being).

I'm actually considering reading the book now, even though it's really intense and I'm not sure how I would handle it, but I always find that movies tend to gloss things over, so in order to enjoy them I have to read the book after I've seen the movie. Usually. Lord of the Rings is the glaring exception.

I don't know if I can this thursday - but I'll see and get back to you. It's a possibility, though.
