In the course of one short hour, I:

  • Mailed a surprise package for [livejournal.com profile] zyll at the post office. Should be there in a week!

  • Mailed [livejournal.com profile] quasisonic and my reply cards to Carly & Tim's nuptual celebration.

  • Fought through a crowd watching a team of undersized gymnasts in a big PR stunt trying to convince people that the Olympics in NYC is a GOOD idea. (um, no, it's not.)

  • Got a surprise for my mom that's going to (hopefully) make her really happy.

  • Checked to see if the Payless on 5th had the Wellies (no dice).

  • Bought Carly's shower gift from me & [livejournal.com profile] quasisonic.

I still have to get wrapping paper & a card for said gift, but that's a lot done. Hopefully I'll be able to finish off today with a trip to the gym. On the work front I've been surprisingly on tio of things...and it's encouraging.

and omg I'm gonna get a new toy!!!111 ::bounce::

Why are olympics in NYC a bad idea?

Because I'm an old grouch, anything that attracts even larger groups of tourists here to clog up the streets and make it impossible for me to get anywhere and/or do anything for a two week period gets me ornery. Plus, I don't want the new Hudson Yards stadium built, and I'd much rather see all of that money go into more useful areas, like education.

I don't see it as a great honor, so much as one big, expensive hassle.

Lest we forget, tourism is the #1 industry in New York the last I read, and the way I figure it, the more money into the city the better. I'm also pro stadium, not only for Olympic reasons, but it'd be a boon to Javits Center and the far west side in general. It'd also mean greater public transportation as well.

I don't really know if we'll make money off of it, considering the building, security, and staffing expenses involved. It seems to me like one of those great, expensive follies along the lines of the Springfield Monorail. Although I suppose the whole thing might be worth it for the addition of the 2nd avenue line.

And I wish more than anythign that there was a higher ranking industry other than tourism, but no dice, I suppose. *sigh*
